I destroyed a pair of the Bates 924 boots
in a very short time, the soles split apart
on them while running.I complained
to Bates about them and they sent me some new
ones that I will be using for work only.
I am looking for a "tough" pair of boots
and was thinking about the Addidas GSG9
but they also seem to be a little too
"sensative" and the cost is high.
What are my options out there for some good boots that will last?
BTW They will be used mainly on concrete
and occasionally wooded ares.

I told Bates that their boots fell
apart on me in a very short time {4 mts}
the soles split in several areas across
the bottom and the nylon upper was "fraying"
real bad they told me to send them back so
they could take a look {great, no boots to wear} so I did and called them a few days
later they claimed they were "defective" http://www.specialoperations.com/ubboard/rolleyes.gif
whatever,at least they replaced them!

You might also look into Belleville 700 TLS, 800, or 600's.

The 700 and 800's have a Gore-tex liner and wear like iron. Not to mention cheaper than comparable Danner's. While not optimal for running, their TLS system is one of the most comfortable designs on the feet for boots of that type. (Note: they recommend ordering these boots a half size larger than normal.) Requires minimal break-in period, mainly around the collar at the top of the boot. (Don't lace them up too tight to begin with!) <g>

The 600 is the hot-weather version. No Gore-tex or padding, a light weight upper (basically similar to the current gen black jungle boots w/ drain vent), with same TLS sole system and Vibram Sierra sole. So far, they seem to hold up very well also. The lighter weight makes it even better for running around, if you must... (Order normal size.)

More info at: http://www.bellevilleshoe.com/

I have all 3 variants and find them great for walking on concrete to hiking trails to running around at 3-Gun competitions...

How heavy are the 600's?

Don't have the exact weight, but due to the excellent, thicker Vibram Sierra sole, they'd probably be slightly heavier than jungle boots, but lighter than the USMC Gore-tex Combat boots, Danner Acadia's, etc.

The 600's are meant for hot weather use. They are great for the desert or other hot areas, general dry weather use... Although, I suppose one could add Gore-tex socks or Seal-Skinz for shallow water use...

If we are talking serious long rucks in more temperate climates, I'd prefer either the 700's or 800's. More padding, ankle support in the uppers, and Gore-tex lining is very nice for those shallow creek crossings or foul weather.

However, if one is going to be out in 95 to 120 degree heat for any amount of time, one can feel the difference with the lighter 600's...

Wow' I've used the Bates(steel toe) jungle boots for about three years know and haven't had any problems. I run six to ten miles a day on both asphalt and rocky/sandy/clay ground five days a week.Where did you buy yours? They may have been factory rejects that where sold to a Army surplus store.Mine last about one year,only needing the insoles replaced once every three months.

The first pair I got from a Bates dealer
the second pair I got directly from Bates
{obviously}
BTW the boots they sent me are now splitting
on the soles too.I did not even run in these!
