I have been trying for a PMC job for the past few months I've applied at BW, TC, Dyncorp , SOC-SMG and a lot others. I've only gotten something back from two company's SOC-SMG and BW. BW told me specific skill sets do not meet the requirements set forth by our client.

I know I have the skills for a lot of these jobs. I was a Marine from 2002-2006 had gone to Iraq three time as a machine gunner. So any advice out there would be a great help to me thanks.

I guess your right it doesn't for some of the jobs! But it has helped me get passed the minimum requirements that I've seen for a lot of these jobs.

What can I do to make these company want me? What are some good skills that I could go to school for or get schooling for?

If I may give you some advice (school of hard knocks here):

Do a good, thorough search of this forum, before asking another question like that. There is TONS of information on here answering the EXACT question you asked.

Look at the sticky's on the top of this forum.

As 10thvet said, look for Force Protection jobs i.e. static security. Your qualifications are honorable, but are average at best for this industry.

The market, due to the number that have deployed to the ME, is flooded with thousands of guys with your qualifications.

No offense but its a reality that you are going to have to realize, and then work to make yourself marketable in that environment.

Hey I don't know if you tried this or not but Bw also has a awesome static program called "Select Program" you won't find it on there website like the there DoS WPPS Program...the reason is that its a Select type of gig.....its a a program for guys like yourself but don't have enough skills for the DoS side of the house.. Pm if you like contact info thats the onlt way you will get in touch of the program...how do I know well because I'm on that same gig and will be deploying within the next month..

So it would it help me out if I go to one of the TFTT and TSI courses? I wish I know about the TFTT they had a class in PSD/VIP Protection this week about 40 miles from where I live. What are some other good places to get training?

I also got a letter from SOC-SMG about a job. How are they to work for?

I haven't worked for SOC, but I've seen them around quite a bit. I'd expect that they are much like everyone else... they will pay you a lot of money to do a dangerous job. I would work for them, they have/had an ok reputation.

Thanks for the info on that

I've tried to email them and ask them where I might be sending me to and why they pay is like but I did not get anything from them.

I would say get your foot in the door. Do a static gig, or get on with the SOC-SMG deal. Additionally get into a PSD/VIP protection course. Keep in mind that these do not really add to your marketability to the larger contracts and companies, but will get you a base level of inderstanding on the principles of the job.

Unfortunately the only thing that will make your resume stand out this day and age is more specialized experience in the SOF community or more time in country working HRE PSD.

That being said if you get some training so you don't look like a tool when your team does sustainment training, and get in country on whatever gig so you can NETWORK, you will move along in the industry. All things being equal, a professionala and humble attitude help as well

Quote by Trader Vic discussing BW was deleted from this spot.

Actually I beg to differ...class 1 and 2 for BW WPPS were nothing but people who met the criteria. It was later that the standards drooped a bit. I would say now they are at about the level of the first few classes again...roughly:)

P.S. actually the people who this board considers industry experts have been in the biz alot longer than that.

Let me be clear. I am not arguing that those criteria make a good PSD guy. Just that they are what they are.

The WPPS program pre dates anything BW has conducted by almost a decade. That does not taking anything away from BW, just fact.

When someone talks about industry experts and he references BW first WPPS class it shows a lack of experience.
