About 2 years ago two Airborne Rangers came to my High School with Most of the equipment they use (minus the weapons). I was able to put on their body armor it had a large ceramic plate in the front. With all the recent news programs airing specials on that Bank robbery in California where the suspects were not able to be killed because of their body armor, I heard one reporter say that they had body armor just like the
armor that the Army's Rangers wear. Is this true? Is this armor availible to civilians? The rangers said their vests cost $4500, is this the accurate price.

SOUNDS LIKE RANGER BODY ARMOR.. THAT PRICE ISNT ACCURATE. THE STUFF IS EXPENDISVE, BUT NOT THAT MUCH. I'LL HAVE TO DIG MINE OUT WHEN I GET HOME FROM KRASNOVIA AND FEDLOG THE NSN.. GOOD THING FEDLOG IS ONLINE NOW.. http://www.specialoperations.com/ubboard/smile.gif
RBA IS SUPPOSED TO BE PHASED OUT BY THE INTERCEPTOR, MADE BY SPP AND ANOTHER COMPANY WHO'S NAME ELUDES ME AT THIS MOMENT..
CHECK THE OLDER POSTS, RBA HAS BEEN DISCUSED ON HERE BEFORE..

Mark:
Point Blanc is the other company, you can get a Interceptor for around $1000 without ballistic plates

Mark,
Point Blank is the contractor for the Outer Tactical Vest on the Interceptor program. H&S at one time I believe had a hand in this program but never got the award for the actual contract.

Is that vest a level III, or IIII? I have a level IIIA with level IIII ceramic incerts, I wouldn't want to have to take a swim with it. ANCORS AWAY!!

We just had new kit issued here at Group. The body armor is part of the SPEAR system. Good stuff, comfortable (without the neck pieces) not un-godly heavy, and rated to stop a 7.62 armor piercing round (with the plates in of course.). It's specified as the BALCS or body armor/load carriage system. There are 3 variants to it. The SOF, Ranger and MOUT variants.
here is a link to the company that makes it http://www.ceradyne.com/apdef.htm#personnelarmor

All,
I'm trying to locate one of the Ranger Body Armor Vests. Does anybody know who carries them? New or used is fine. With or without the armor plates (although preferably with). Unit still issues PASGT and I want to upgrade.

Sorry Guys,
I just dug through some old posts and found everything I needed. I think I'll go for the newer Interceptor. Does anyone remember the price at Point Blank? Their site is down.
