I'm playing with the idea of getting an LBV attached to my back but i'm not sure whether i should get a pre made LBV or get an modular one and personalize it to myself. Suggestions anyone?

First, are you looking for a LBV or a rucksack?

There are not very many affordable and well built modular rucksacks.

There are tons of modular LBVs, but you wear them as vests not on your back.

modular rucks=no

modular vest=yes

buy some cordura and personalize your ruck is my suggestion. Or get a good modular LBV from just about any tactical company, LBTC, Eagle, SOE, TT,etc...

sorry now that i've actually read what i've wrote and realized it makes no sense(no shit right) let me clear it up for you. i'm looking for an LBV to attach to my rucksack, kind of like the MOLLE configuration and i'm wondering if anyone out there had any opinons as to what i should do. I thinking of either getting a modular LBV attached to my pack so that i can personalize it or should i just get an Eagle or Blackhawk LBV and Have Tactical Tailor sew it together for me.

i may be a have-not-BTDT but what the fuck would be the point of this mod? sewing your ruck to your lbv would make no sense at all. your ruck is for carrying mission essential equipment; radio, uniform, boots, food, med gear, etc. this by definition would be pretty heavy. your lbv, vest, chest harness, etc is for carrying personal essentials, ammo, water, broken down mre, compass, etc. if you were ever out on patrol and all hell breaks loose, your fucked! a) you drop the ruck to be more mobile and OOPS!...no ammo. b) you keep the ruck to make sure you have ammo and OOPS!......heavy weighted down guy with the sewn on ruck holding the team from movement to contact or exfil. maybe it's just me from a commo guys point of view but my ruck gets pretty damned heavy. if yours is light enough to sew onto a lbv, maybe you should just look at modifying a butt pack with more pockets. or help me carry my shit. either way. you know your mission requirements more than i. just my .02

Call the Tactcial Tailor and ask if they will sew webbing to a ruck so that you can attach various modular pockets. Is that what you are looking for?

OK, Now I understand what you mean, I think you shouldn't waste a vest or a ruck by combining them, probably you should ask any custom gear mfgs if they can make a detachable version, that you can add ALICE shoulder straps or clip to your vest. That would give you the most modularity, or stick with a butt pack.

I would use a modular vest if you are trying to create a custom MOLLE type thing, with a detachable ruck.
