Are they platoon and squad RTOs or REMFs?

Do they get to do the door kicking or are they left back at the patrol base/ORP to wait like a nervous wife until the troops get back?

Is there a pecking order for non-11B's versus 11B's? (okay silly question, but helps to understand the mindset a little tiny bit.)

Is or is not RIP the great equalizer among the incoming folks irregardless of MOS?

There are 31C and 31U and some 35 series (repiar) in Regiment. ( by that I mean at RHQ and the 3 Batt) At the Regimental level they work for a commo detachment that gets the Command level there comms while deployed.... at the Battalion level they either work for the Battalion commo section or a line company... I was a 31U and ran the Aco Commo shop at 3/75 and worked at Regiment in the signal detachment. On the line I was a Company Commanders RTO, I had a heavy ass ruck.... The boys at battalion level operate the BN Commo vehicles and were the RTO's for the different levels of command. The company RTO's are usually a young 31 series if the commo NCO is lucky, it is hard to get support guys to the battalions before they get scared and quit. I had 2 31's working for me and 4 11B that were the RTO's for the platoons, I was responsible to train up the line RTO's on radio operation and procedures, the platoon RTO's are in turn responsibel for the platoon commo gear. The line RTO's do all the training with the platoons and carry a radio to boot, they have to master two skills which isn't hard for a motivated hoah...(right Kurt?)

As far as sending rounds down range go to a Battalion and try to get into a line company. I had the best of both worlds, I would attach my guys to a line platoon on a exercise and they would train as infantry so they got some really great training. I even got one of my guys sent to sniper school, and jumpmaster school, and another went to a demo MTT usually reserved for the 11 series. HQ platoon has MTOE needs as well as the line platoons. I could go do whatever I wanted because I had a good repoir with all the Platoon Sgt's and they would let me attach myself for whatever training I wanted as long as it didn't interfere with my duties as commo sgt, which means supporting the boys, I tried to do every thing for the boys in the field that I could, ask Weigal, he will agree I think.

If you go support you will not get any respect until you prove yourself. (IE get your Tab.) Or are squared away, I had to do many a road march and field time to gain the trust of some NCO's. I knew E-7's in Regiment (3 Battalions Joe) that could not get there shit and were made fun of and hazed because of it, and they would eventually leave but that is a good thing. If you have a high tolerance for bull shit, don't get your tab, but if you want a great job and a lot of fun get your shit. If you want to do all the fun stuff go 11 series your age will only be an issue if you let. Good luck

Gold was the best, We got all the hard shit. Ask your Old Boss. I came in when SGM Hammonds was in the RHQ building. I had SGM Ski as my Platoon SGT. I bet you served with Bader, Lopez and Big ass Billy. I am in the same boat as you, Im gonna go back in. I hate the Civilian World...it sucks. I'm Going to go Air Force Unless I get a offer I can't refuse from my old boss Johnny. What a small fucking world...

As for line company Commo, it blows Regt. away, I had more fun on the line than Regt any day, The boys on the line make it fun. ACo 3/75 commo was the best in the Regiment...Ask anyone

I was wondering if you would be able to figure out who that was fuching with you.Well I can tell you this we need commo guys in the Regt. bad now and your right Batt. is ten times better than being in Regt. I came back in in May of 2000 been in Cco 1/75 the whole time, I worked for John when I came back in before he left.I'am about to get my own shop so that should be cool. If there is anything I can help you with coming back in let me know I'll send my phone number to you e-mail
