I am going to be doing a course in April here in south Texas just like the one I used to do at Blackwater.

For all you Texas officers, I spoke to the curriculum folks at TCLEOSE, Austin this morning. They tell me there should be no problem with getting your training points from this course. I am still learning Texas procedure for this stuff. A little different from my home state.

Great course. I went thru it last year. Lots of knowledge to be learned from all the years of experience from Finger. I highly reccomend this course to all the LEO's out there.

I designed the precision rifle course at Blackwater years ago just for that. Took out everything except the shooting skills. We discussed that here and it's not been nixed. Just that there is not enough time right now. We might be doing it in the future though. I will pass the word when that happens.

Basic Law Enforcement Sniper Course
16 thru 20 April 2007

This course is restricted to commissioned law enforcement personnel and selected military, particularly those assigned or to be assigned to an agency SWAT/tactical sniper team.

Course Subjects:
• Equipment and Maintenance
• Scope Adjustments
• Data Book
• Fundamentals of Marksmanship
• Sniper Selection
• Ballistics
• Effects of Weather
• Team Organization and Mission
• Observation Techniques
• Range Estimation
• Camouflage
• The Sniper Option
• Communications, Reporting and Recording
• Decision Shooting Scenarios
• Day and Night Live-Fire Drills

For those who know Jim Reifinger, this is the same course he taught at Blackwater and various North Carolina police academies.

Jim Reifinger is a retired Marine and also a retired police Captain from North Carolina. He has 15 years of SWAT/sniper experience both operationally and as a lead instructor. Before coming to Texas, Jim was a staff instructor at the Coastal Carolina Community College LE Academy and the lead LE Sniper instructor at the Blackwater Training Center.


Must have items
• Assigned scoped rifle capable of staying in a two inch circle at 100 yards (minute of angle) NOTE: Call if you are not sure about your rifle.
• We will provide you with a student data book for the course.
• Rifle cleaning gear (plenty of patches)
• Your departments tactical uniform (for at least first day)
• Cold weather gear (you never know)
• Rain gear (for you and your rifle)
• 200 rounds of match ammo (MIN)
• Spotting scope and binoculars (for shooting and observation drills)
• Flashlight
Nice to have items
• Small pocket calculator
• Camouflage BDU's and/or Grille suit (for woodland stalk exercise)
• Bipods on your rifle
• We also recommend snipers to carry some kind of pack (i.e., ALICE pack without frame)
• Shooting mat or ground cloth

List of local Motels: We are an hour south of San Antonio. We plan a lot of late night shooting exercises, so you might want to stay closer to the training facility here in Dilley. You should expect some 12 hour days.

Tuition: $550.00 per student

Texas officers will be able to get credit through TCLOESE.
