I posted this in the BUD/S forum but I'll try here. My local recruiter asked me to
help this kid get ready for BUD/S. During my off time I helped him prep. He went
through the navy no problem. When he went to BUD/S he failed the psych
screening test. He was heart broken. I can vouch for this kid. He's no nut case at
all. I just think he was dealt a bad hand. He says that when he took the test with
his class He was exhausted. Is there anyway for him to get back into BUD/S? He
has his heart set on it and I dont know what to tell him?

I don't believe there is a pass/fail psych test given at BUD/S... unless it is something relatively new. There hasn't been anything like that in the past.
SF uses psychological screening for their candidates. But those tests are given before training starts... that way, no money is wasted on training someone who is deemed "unstable".
Naval Special Warefare community hasn't taken similar measures because the tests available aren't entirely accurate in predicting behavior. The training in and of itself is more reliable.
Bottom line, I think this guy may not be completely forthcoming with you.
Maybe someone else knows differently.

Yes there is a test. It is a six hundred question profiler. I know for a fact it is in use now because I took the test with my BUD/S class. The test is given during the last days of indoc. It is a 3.5 hour test which is given right after breakfast. and doesn't end until lunch. A doctor from NI air station and a doctor from DEVGRU give out the examination. It was started when two BUD/S graduates in the early 90's were convicted of murdering a young woman in Virginia. And no the test arent entitrely accurate, I know this kid and he has what it takes, he's no nut. I pose this question again to people of NAVSPECWAR or are familiar with it. thank you once again for all answers though.

The length of the test (~600 questions) makes it sound like the MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory)or one of it's variants. If it was the MMPI it is not ordinarily a pass/fail test. It is designed to ferret out certain personality traits that based upon answers to questions that are above/below the norm, may be cause for an interview with a psychologist to determine root cause for the deviance (if there really is one). Throughout the test the same questions will be asked but they will be phrased such that you will remember answering a similar question but the new question cannot be answered in exactly the same fashion. Based upon what little I know of the SEAL program and the studies that have been done to determine what kind of personality traits make a good SEAL I would say that making this type of test a pass/fail would tend to exclude a number of good potential candidates. I have taken the MMPI at least 15 times over the last 15 years and have had to visit the psych only once. I work in the nuclear power field and the MMPI is a standard used throughout the industry for a psychological exam.

Just one point should be made about the psych test. Squidly made a comment about a trip to the psychologist. Well, the only person qualified to do the kind of make or break psychiatric evaluations for the SEAL or SF program would be a psychiatrist. Not a psychologist. Big difference. A psychiatrist is an MD and much more highly trained and more knowledgeable than a psychologist.
Practically anyone capable of getting into a four year college can become a PhD psychologist. I would not entrust a "yeah or neah" say so to a mere psychologist, no matter where they went to school or what their resume says...they are not MDs. Hopefully, these interviews are being done by well trained military psychiatrists, not psychologists...huge difference there.

Hello Jack,
I don't know how you persuaded Tom to make you a moderator, but I do know one thing--you are not in full possession of the facts.
Get the mind going before you engage the mouth. Amazing how you admit being a newcomer to the forums in the first part of your sentence and let fly with an opinion in the second half. What the hell are they teaching kids in school these days?
Do you know nightinsertion is a fake? Do you know if he has ever claimed to be a SEAL? Did you ever learn about finding things out for yourself instead of swallowing someone else's story and screaming for more?

I am not a personal friend of nightinsertion, but stupid shit irritates me, and this fits the bill.

True...
sorry for that; I had been making a campaign for 2 hours and was a little frustrated to say the least when I checked some forums for responses before goin to sleep,
but,
I read most of the forum here since the latest UBB was installed and I believe that you said he was not a SEAL and he was IMPLYING he was.. he never said it directly but he talked from first person point of view and he didnt graduate BUD/S.

I direct your attention to the string to Trident/Fred!
I have never made claims and you were out of line. During my stay at BUD/S I gained a profound respect for them and would never claim to be a member of some of the bravest most dedicated soldiers without properly earning the title.

Sorry for the hiatus! working too much. Now for this dipshit asswipe. NO I never claimed to be a SEAL. NO I AM NOT A SEAL! I was in BUD/s class 224. OUr ptrr proctor was instructor King. For people who like to criticize other people it's the Physical Training Rest Relaxation. it is the holding pattern for people who first arrive, are broken from all three phases. The PTRR barracks are right between the grinder and the beach, next to the barracks is what we called the "pit" where we would hold our musters. You want more specifics! 224 and 225 were the ONLY class to wear cammies instead of the green BDU's. The change was made because it was expensive to keep making the greens. The proctor that was a badass was instructor Getka ask anyone who Has been to BUD/s recently and they'll no who he is! Want more proof young Willy- surrounding BUD/s is SEAL teams 1,3,5. MY CO at the time was Capt McGuire, our CMC was Master chief Goward and then he left to WARCOMM. MC Melia took over as CMC. From December to March or April our Quarterdeck is under construction, it now has marble floors(I know because I was always cleaning them). We did all of of our indoc swimming at the CTT(combat training tank)across the street at NAB. right outside the pool is the decon showers where they make trainees freeze their asses off! enough or you want more. As far as contacts you chump. I was an Operations Specialist "A" school before going to BUD/s. Anyone in the navy knows that OS school is in Dam Neck, virginia. which is also where DEVGRU is! SAME BAse. Every aspiring BUD/s guy at that school talk to the SEALs at DEVGRU.(We all shared the same pool) And as far as the other stuff, I was questioning because one of my instructors from BUD/s left for DEVGRU right before I was discharged and was wonderin how he was doin? If we would like call the quarter deck dipshit and ask when they administer the psych test. It is during the second week of indoctrination. I was inquiring about other SOF units because I dont know everything, I NEVER CLAIM TOOO! And I want to go back in the service!
What I simply try is to inform any hopefuls with what little info I have, I,unlike some pussnuts, try to help people and not criticize them just to have interesting conversation on this net. Its a damn shame when people want to be asses over a damn computer. I have never judged drop outs, some of my closest friends DOR'd from my class
My recommendation to you young fellow is to watch where you stick your nose or you'll get it caught in a bear trap! Go out and get a life to live for yourself and stop trying to sit in judgement of mine o'young one.
