This question is for those who have attended BUD/S (doesn't matter if you graduated or not) or any other Spec Ops schools. The question is, knowing what you now know about the training, is there anything different you would do to prepare? I am mainly interested in answers that focus more on the running, swimming, or PT aspects. Also, how many miles do you recommend running per week (and at what mile/minute times), swimming per week, and PT per week. Thanks in advance to those that reply!

I'll tell you this, you can never be completely ready for BUD/S. No matter how hard you push yourself here, you'll feel the difference when you get there on your first PT.But anyways, I strongly recommended the twelve weeks to BUD/S by LT STEW SMITH. This book help take me to a new level. My biggest thing was running and swimming, your body will slowly adjust to the amount of pt, but if you haven't been running and you're not comfortable in the water forget about it. The most important thing is your 1.5 mile time you should be well under 11:30.(mine was 1030)Work on your distance later, go for that time trust me! Get your ass in a pool now! the majority of first phase is spent either in the pool or the ocean. I wished I joined a masters swim team before I left. start swimming 500 meters, with and w/o fins. Once you get your swim time under 12:30 move to a thousand meters.keep building up. The most important of all and anyone who has been through specops on this net will tell you is your attitude. If you dont have fire in the gut to make it or die, you wont last through indoc.

Hey nightinsertion,
If you don't mind my prying, what's your post-BUD/S story? I know that 226 did hell week only a couple months ago, so 224 couldn't have finished all that long ago. What happened? As always, a hearty "fuck off" will do nicely if you don't want to say.

If you don't mind me asking, if you got out on a hardship discharge and didn't finish BUD/S why are you looking at going into a different service now, and not returning to BUD/S? Was it a bad experience in the Navy/BUD/S, or can you not get back in the navy now?

Hi nightinsertion,
Any reason in particular that young wannabes might want to know about?
(Or did you just wake up one day and realize that you hate water. heh.)

Naw, I love spending my early mornings in the surf zone doing flutter kicks! hehehe
Seriously though, it is just a personal choice. Didn't really like the navy. Kind of family tradition. Loved BUD/S though.

HEY NIGHTINSERTION,
How many push-ups did you guys do for PT in BUD/S? On Average.

There really was no average. In a pt session during ptrr we would do whatever the instructor wanted to do. during phase it was pretty structured pt. The most pushups we ever did in a pt session was over 400.(well over) Instructor pulled a deck of cards and did pushups like that.(of course no one really finished except for him)
Motivation pt is what'll get you. Pushups weren't really that difficult, NOW FLUTTER KICKS!!! Those always kicked my ass!LOL
If you can do 100 pushups without grunting and groaning you're Okay

Just out of curiosity,
How many flutter kicks would be considered a lot during BUD/S? 500? 1000? 2000? (and are these numbers four count or total numbers?)
What I meant was how many push-ups at one time did you do. When you did the deck of cards did you have to remain in Push-up stance while he pulled the next card?

I thought you were mike e? No we got to go on our knees. I'm not sure how many like I said the most at one time was too high over 400 to the point the only thing I could think about was is this shit ever gonna end. u got to go on your knees for a second, didn't help though.
Sorry, I am MIKE E, Iforgot my password and it never e-mailed it to me. So your telling me that you guys did over 400 push-ups pretty much non stop?!?!?! Wow. What happens if a guy didn't make it through all of them?
