I think it should be the last thing on your mind. Correct me if I'm wrong but if you become a Seal you will encounter many other "fu&*%$s" in the seas beside jellyfishs around the world. But this is only my opinion and I will let the qualifed people answer that question (cause I'm not a Seal).

Sea snakes and barracuda get my vote.

Sea snakes, because they have venom for which there is no known antidote. They also have poor eyesight, so they have to get real close to you to figure out what you are (I don't like that a bit!).

Barracuda are territorial, tempermental, and lightning-fast. While they will probably not kill you, they can tear you up in a heartbeat with only the slightest provocation.

I have to at least mention the Portuguese Man-of-war. I've never seen one in person (knock on wood), but these have a very nasty reputation for stinging their prey to death.

Uh-oh,
well....the area around Coronado has a lot of incidents of 'man-o-war encounters. However, usually pretty far off shore, and they're pretty hard to miss. Here in Hawaii, the lionfish is the scourge of the 25th's LRSD boys. One sting, and your ass is down for 30 days -easy-. Small guys and kids are pretty much headed for the meatlocker..

i was only asking cause ive never been stung by one. my friend did, was allergic and had a bad reaction. that wouldnt be a good thing in the middle of a 5 mile ocean swim

However, the MOW is about the biggest jellyfish your likely to ever see (BIG).
The lionfish is about the size of your fist, and likes to hide among rocks in shallow water. And, no, BDU's will -not- hinder the fish from stinging your ass.

I was in Bermuda in 92' and I was just sitting there swimming around in my flippers when this crazy lady starts yelling "Man-o-war!" So I hurry out of the water and it turns out it was a plastic bag. That crazy XX
