Swim during Hell Week?

No. The kind BUD/S instructors require only that you attend either a ballet or modern dance class each day before afternoon tea.
The dance class satisfies all physical requirements set forth by the Naval Special Warfare Center command for the Hell Week period. [Physical exertion has been found to cause a sheen of perspiration, which is unpleasant and unattractive. Young ladies...er, trainees...should limit themselves to more civilized pursuits.]

The only H20 exposure BUD/S trainees experience during Hell Week is the (optional) mud facial and steam bath following the pedicure. If you actually WANT to swim, you have to obtain the permission of your cruise director...er, BUD/S Instructor.

Are you for real?

I am a Canadian and know only , about the Navy SEALs, what I read. It wouldn't make much sense to cut out such a key aspect as swimming during the most critical phase of the training. From what I understand Navy SEAL recruits spend a majority of phase 1 & 2 in water type exercises. Since 'Hell Week' tests a person's determination to its max, wouldn't it be logical to expose them to the worst water situations possible? That would be like my training cutting out class a structural fires during my firefighting phase of my training.

I mean in everything I've read I don't here about the trainees doing 4 mile swims or stuff during Hell Week. All I hear you do in Hell Week is for the most part running, pt, paddling, different kinds of competitions, Obsticle course, sitting in the water, etc.

But I never really heard of them doing big swims or anything.

i have had several friends go and i havn't heard about any signifigant swims during HW.

Of course you'll be wet and in the water but no word about any form type swimming...probably too dangerous for what is trying to be acchieved, which is to teach people that they can handle enormous stress and still function.

Not too many perfect pushups either.

I know they do some swimming in certain evolutions. In Wahlers book, "The Commandos" he explains some of this that he witnessed. However I would agree with Sax in that they probably limit the swimming and concentrate on other activities. I haven't heard much about actual swimming in Hell Week either, though most activites they do are at least closely related. But who knows maybe im a dumbass and don't know what im talking about http://www.specialoperations.com/ubboard/smile.gif.
