Got a friend who is a Nurse. He has some military experience with the Marines as a Corpsman in Iraq and is looking for an overseas gig. He doesn't have any EMT certs was wondering if there any jobs for an ER/Critical Care Nurse.

Jong,

Medhunters is one option...the site lists many medical jobs and provides several are for nurses in Saudi, Kuwaiti and UAE hospitals...pay isn't much higher than domestically but "might" be tax free depending on home country laws.

There are also many companies that hire American RNs in the UK as contract workers...can be a bit messy logistically getting started but doable.

In any country where English is not the official or primary working language it is very hard to work as a nurse...in most of Europe you typically need to be trained(often the whole 4 year program) and licensed in the particular country so it makes it nearly impossible for yanks.

I have also seem jobs offered in the South Pacific at various government and territorial facilities.

A book called International Medicine by Rene Steinhauer is a good reference.

Cheers.

If he is looking into getting into Iraq or A-stan probably wont happen. If he/she wants to do it to travel the world or US tell him to PM me. Been traveling in the US for almost 5 years. Good time, good pay. Hell send him here to LA with me. Twice the trauma of any other place Ive worked.

AMEDD... IRC... Doctors without boarders... and several other NGOs...

There is also a program at Creighton University (http://ems.creighton.edu/rnp.htm) that takes RNs ---> EMT-P in 2-3 weeks...

If he wants to do Creighton he'll have to get his EMT-B first.

He should also think about getting more advanced skills too, especially airway. Typically RNs do well with the didactics but suffer on the skills portion.

It used to be that RNs had to have at least two years experience in a critical care area along with ACLS, PALS, and NRP certs. Im not sure what they are now-
