Are soldiers of other NATO-States allowed to participate the ranger course?

The Canadian Forces regularly sends people on the Ranger course. Most do very well.

We do? I know a couple guy's just did very well recently, one palcing first, and i know that overtime a few troops have done it, but is it regular thing? Do Canadian troops that pass get to wear any type of insignia? (I guess a Ranger tab wouldn't work on our combats, eh?)

I didn't think it was very regular either. On the DND web site it states a MCPL. Calais is the only authorized soldier in the Canadian Forces to wear the Ranger Tab. Could be an old report though....

I know that even CF officers can go to Ranger school. It would be interesting to see Ranger tabs on CF combats or DEUs.

I've heard that a while back, some CF soldiers went to French Commando school/course, and were allowed to wear the badge on their DEUs upon completion. I know the badge is metallic, but I dont' know what it looks like. However, I have seen pictures of soldiers in DEU wearing uncommon metallic badges (not foreign jump wings).

Does any CF member have information on either one of these schools?

Yes, friendly NATO states are allowed to attend US Ranger School on joint/exchange training programs. The Danish Ranger Corps, the Irish Army Ranger Wing, Canada's Joint Task Force 2 send personnel to Ranger School.

yup...generally it's a crap shoot as to who gets to go to Ranger school[recce pl. types], however if you pass for deu's you wear the tab about 3 fingers beneath the Canada patch on the left side, and midway between the can. flag, and rank on the jump smock...same thing for the all arms cdo dagger

When I worked at the Gulag there was a guy from Africa, I believe he was from Zimbabwe, who went through. This guy had tribal scars all over his body, to include his face. Scary looking guy for sure but was actually very nice and polite. He dropped voluntarily which is known as LOM or Lack Of Motivation. RTB held onto him at the Gulag until his class graduated and they sent him home with a "certificate of attendance". Supposedly RTB did this because another foreign soldier from Africa was sent home as a failure and was beheaded for embarassing his country by not graduating. Rumor control had it that RTB received a letter from that soldiers country apologizing for his failure that included polaroids of the mans head after he was beheaded. I know this sounds far-fetched and I have no idea about how true the story is. Just what I was told at the time. My understanding was that TRADOC made the call to start awarding the certificates of attendance in certain cases after the pictures were forwarded to Gen. Hartzog(?). The guy that I had dealings with at Gulag didn't seem too worried. Only glad to get some food and sleep.

Yes, they have put people through ranger school from just about everywhere except eastern bloc countries when I was in RTB (89-91) They probably send everyone there now except for countries that we are really pissed at.

The distingushed Honor Graduate of my Class DISCO RANGER 14-80 was an Israeli Captain from their Parachute Brigade... and he was one of the best soldiers I ever saw. He always lead from the front on patrols and he taught the RTB instructors a thing or two as by the time he got to Ranger School he had already been decorated for the Entebee Raid and had lead 20 0r 30 combat patrols across the border into Lebanon chasing after terrorists. That guy was something else...he was in a league of his own.He was in my squad and he always carried more than his weight. I wish I could remember his name and I wonder if he is still alive. I gave him my english translation of Rommel's excellent book "Infantry Attacks" as a going away gift.
From what I understand most foreign students are pouges... but this guy was a major exception.

Mr Potato,
Even our former Warsaw Pact nemesis attend Ranger school now. I've met some Polish Officers who have graduated Ranger School. Although Poland now is a member of NATO.

I was told same thing by one of my recruiters except it was I think someone from a middle eastern country and they started that all pass no fail policy.
sounds not so farfetched to me think of some of the other traditions they do and suddenly it seems very plausable.
