Former 37F, RC, deployed/served both in the 15th and 16th; even spent some summers w/6/84th instructing.
I laughed to myself at B 2/75's 14yrs in CA comment/reaction, until I realized I spent 12 in PSYOP - suddenly it wasn't funny at all. Actually, I loved/love the units, experiences, the science, and the art.
Respect to those still serving the CA and PSYOP community; it is often thankless, with unseen successes, but of vital importance.
Thanks for having me.

Do they even make the new guys read Starship troopers as part of inprocessing to 9th anymore? The practice was dying out in the late 90s, and I bet probably ended with the demise of the Opdets on Buker Street.

Made my way to CA in the early 90's from AD ABN Infantry, and I saw the light...spent about 12yrs CA and got more time down range in any given year than most of my friends got in a career. And lots of pretty CA candy for my uniform. A CA Dining In looks like a friggin mexican general dinner.
I hung up my SFC stripes after OIF and am now an MI Off. in a RC PSYOP unit. Although I am not 37 series I have gotten arrested by the Carabinari while drinking with a bunch of wayward 37F's. Does that count??

31 October 2006, 11:50
I have hopes that we might be able to use the testbed for the laser on the Snowgoose though. Or we might go with the 'burning bush' theory.
Burning Bush PSYACT Concept:
Mounting a thermal laser and speaker system on the CQ-10A, we orbit at about 8000ft AGL, and find our target. Using the laser, we start a nearby bush on fire, then proceed to play our speaker message:
"Abdullah, this is Allah speaking. I have some things you need to know about what the insurgancy has been doing....."
I think it would work!!
But if we can't get the money for that, we might just have to fall back on the midget sniper commando ideas.

Ohhh yeah! SSG when we deployed together ... you must be a CSM now, or maybe an officer? I remember that deployment well! Jones fell in love and we could never get Charles out of the Star Bar! I still think about the Rock Hard's hamburgers ... I think they are the ones that gave me the tape worm.
I did hear there were some changes, PACOM got their own BN, which is great ... 8th BN had all of the action spots there for a while and were way over taxed! I'm still in touch with Mullin ... he's contracting in and out of the two sandboxes.
Glad to hear you are doing well, keep your head down and be safe; if you see Okeefe, let him know I just want to talk with him, I'm not trying to collect the $100 he owes me.

The Rock Hard Cafe, Star Bar, remember the Armenian social club and the great chow they had over there? That goat at the EDP compound was pretty good too. Jones got out, came back in and then got out again a few years ago. Charles made LTC, and then kind of disappeared, I know he had a bad eye surgery at Womack, dont know if he was med boarded out. I'll give O'Keefe your regards when I see him, but that may be some time, everybody is running around all over as you probably already know. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.:)

LOL ... My Hood was not super-high speed ... but he was covered in tattoos of angels holding automatic weapons, with a scroll that read: "Stumbling Drunk in Puddles of Blood ..." or something to that effect. He was an Interagator-Chinese Linguist.
Looking at your profile, we (Hood and I) came in right as you were getting out maybe ... we both came into the army in 91'.

Currently on my last 3 months of DS duty at Benning. Been a 12B all my life. got these spiffy jump wings a couple years ago, called my branch to get a job at Bragg or in an Airborne UA. They told me there were too many guys in my pay grade at those jobs already.
I said "screw you" and put in a CA packet last month, got a nice acceptance letter, and am now waiting for notification of my class date and PCS orders. I'm gonna lurk here for a while, don't have any questions that I havn't found answers to on the net or in Army Doctrine. Since this is not an Engineer forum, I'm really not qualified to comment on much if anything. Some great reads here, and from what I can tell some awesome guys and gals.
Nice to meet ya'll and see you around.

Just Got offered a CA slot in a USAR unit. A buddy, (current CA Officer) told me it was downhill since USAR CA left SOCCOM. ANy insights from anyone on this ? I am a Infantry SFC 11B coming out of retirement for this unit. I want all the high speed deployments and schools I haven't got already, but most importantly, I want to know what a Senior NCO from the Infantry can expect in a CA unit (with multiple OIF, OEF tours). Also, anyone with recent experience at the schoolhouse. (Bragg). Thanks for anyone in the CA or Psyops loop, please PM me if nesc. I want to go back to Iraq or Stan ASAP. The recruiter was like "we can get you 24 months stabilized non deployable", I'm like, I WANNA GO BACK..............:D

Reclassed from 19D Scout and hvae to say CA is a pretty good gig. Due to lack of officers with us at time of deployment I was E6 CA team leader and got to see how both sides work (planning and operations) I would highly reccommend CA to anyone wanting to get deployed and wanting to make a difference in the host nation.

Name: Mike Spight
Military Experience: Some posted in my Intro, but as to ARSOF Specific, here it is--brought into FA 39C in August 1990 from MP Branch. I was in the very first Troy State University class at FBNC...yeah, the 28 guys who missed Desert Storm. While assigned to SWC, I also attended the Regional Studies Course, CA Officer Advanced Course, Basic Airborne Course, and then Spanish language training. Following language training, I reported to Co A, 96th CA Bn (Abn) in Feb 93, was assigned as a Tm Ldr, and immediately seconded to JTF-Bravo as the Director, J5-CMO, where I served for one year. Returned to Bragg, did a special project at USACAPOC, then attended CGSOC. Graduated, served three years as a CA staff officer at USSOCOM (95-98), then PCS'd to Ft. Leavenworth and BCTP. Retired in July 99 with 24 years of total service.

37A?
Just selected to attend the new MISO selection at Fort Bragg. When I pass the one week two day selection in the next few months I can claim that 37A more firmly.
Cheers,
Bergy
I'm an OCS grad in 08 too... SIGO... I'm heading to the MISOAS next week. I just got orders to go to MCCC in July, barring a good showing at selection.

Is there anybody on here that is Active duty and not reserve's or national guard?
Hey there, currently serving as a TPT tm leader in America's newest 8th MISO Group! Or Psyop Group whichever sounds cooler. Anyway, I have served in 9th BN as a Tac guy since 2008. Glad to be aboard!

After reading your profile, I think we meet before at Bragg. I also served in "Old PSYOPs" in the early 80,s. Thanks for your service and have a great fourth of July.

Tom, post your intro here.. http://socnet.com/showthread.php?p=1058004840#post1058004840
We have also met several times over the years. I was at reclass AIT when you were at BNCOC, and I was at CJTF-7 while you were over in Sadr City.
