Anyone have any feedback on the "new" SFAS?
I heard that the training group did as they promised and passed only fifteen percent. This was without regard for the actual performance of the students.
I also heard that a very senior officer at SOCOM blew his lid when he heard this because there is such a shortage of qualified SF personnel.

Please expound?
The only info I heard was STAR Land Nav and more SUT evaluation. No difference in the length, however.
So now they are sticking to a cutoff in terms of #s of soldiers selected?

Whammer,
My work e-mail is in and out, so I will catch you when I can get back on line.
In response to your question, SFAS is still at three weeks. There is a strong effort to make it five weeks, but that has not happened, yet.
STAR Land Nav and more SUT have replaced Team Week. This is where most of the failures came from (not the drop outs).
A lot of the information is shaky, as the people who make the decisions aren't talking to us. Since this is all new, no one is saying much, until all of the bugs are worked out.

Regardless,
When you get a chance, please drop me line or a post with whatever you hear regarding the new criteria during team week...
Or anyone else for that matter.
thanks sapper
As of the first changed SFAS class in May; SFAS is still 3 weeks long, 9 days in the field at the STAR course, 3 9&1/2 hour STAR Land Nav courses, 4 4&1/2 hour self correcting courses. 2 days of SUT classes. Then a 55K movement incorparating patrolling, then 3 days of team week and a long distance movement of 24 miles. the new selection is geared towards the success in the Q
