Are heart murmurs a disqualifier for SF or Rangers? Thanks.

I have no idea myself ... but I'm just trying to imagine you out on an op, and the "Bad gentlemen" hear your abnormal heart beats ... heh.
I'd imagine it would be though. But who knows with todays Army.

Duster, You'd have to see a cardiologist when you do your SF Physical. Many "Abnormal heartbeats" are pretty normal. Only the doc can say.

Up front, I don't know what the reg's are for murmurs. It probably depends on how you acquired it..i.e. were you born with it or did you develop one through some disease process (like acute rheumatic fever)?
GUY, that's some good stuff you put out, almost like it's right outta the book. http://www.specialoperations.com/ubboard/wink.gif

Hi GUY, thanks for the information, I'm planning on joining the service but I am wondering about my heart murmur (VSD- Ventricular Septal Defect). I've had it since I was born but the whole shrinks more and more every check up (every 3 years). I don't know how to classify it, you can only hear it if you put your ear to my chest.
Thanks,
J

If you could hear it standing next to someone....that would be bad....

Snake,
I can hear women's hearts beating loudly when they see me....LOL
It's hard being a heart throb!

Shurefire, I'm thinking that a VSD is a medical bar to enlistment. but I am not certain, so you need to check with a recruiter.
It's good that the hole is closing, but there are problems associated with a VSD, such as exercise intolerance, pulmonary hypertension, and a reversal of shunt (aka Eisenmenger physiology).
Be advised that I ain't no phizishun yet, just a medical student. So, ultimately, listen to the doc what's treatin' ya.
