Ok, so I am 19 I have about 30 college credits, I am a little out of shape, but im dealing with that issue. I have recently decided to go for my high school dream and join the military. The only thing that may hold me back is I lost my toe in like 6th grade (7 years ago) it is my big toe... but it affects me in no way. I have decided that PSYOP is the way I want to go, because frankly I have heard nothing but good things about it, and this forum helps this decision. I am going to go active, and am looking foreward to being a part of the military... I am just looking for some general info on the job... I know I am qualified from the ASVAB... my score is a 98, and I believe my GT score was 133 if I remember correctly. I am just worried my physical is going to screw me over. my recruiter said something about if I score a 3 on anything, such as the lower extremity, I cannot do the job. Any insights? I would love to here from people out at Bragg, or any psyop guys that are in... I respect your opinions and your 2 cents. Thanks, Mark

okay, I can't resist any longer...

if you have to "go down" for your physical, instead of going to MEPS, some body is really taking advantage of you.

Don't ask, don't tell? :D

Well, I definatly could have worded that a little better... Anyways, I need to go to MEPS for my physical... my recruiter said something about scoring below a two DQ's me... any reference I can look at to see what below a two would amount to?

Oh, and if all goes well I will be enlisting on wednesday the 11th... it all depends on whether I can drop an inch on my waist or not... I am at 25.85% body fat... which is pretty chunky I know... but I am working on it, I am already down about 2.5 inches... my recruiter has me doing all sorts of not so fun things... including running with a trash bag on to sweat out my water weight... I know it is worth it...

Oh, and since I have been reading through some of the forum... I dont have a sister, but I do have a few chick friends... and they are HOT.

We don't trust your word on Hotness, it's too subjective and you're only 19 and of an age where anything female and not directly related to you is hot.

Post pics. Let those with the experience decide.

While I would love to, I dont exactly have a working digital camera at the moment... If I did I would be more than glad to. I had just added it because I saw how often it is asked, just trying to throw some amusement around. But in all honesty, I was reading through the posts and I even tried to search it... but I couldnt find what I was looking for, I know many of you have been through or currently are at Fort Bragg, and I was just wondering how the base was... I have a cousin in the Marines, and he said he wasn't a fan of the town that it is located near... he said it was boring. IS there actually any truth to this?

Boring? Fayetteville boring? You must jest... I wouldn't worry about it, you won't spend much time around Fayetteville.

As far as your other questions, you will have to pass an Airborne Physical to enter the MOS on the active component side. I'm not a Doc so I can't address the PULHES issue you might have with that missing big toe, but like TPD1280 said... the Docs will let you know when you go to MEPS for your physical.

Yeah, I have to have a consult, but I am pretty confident... I never hindered by it, I can march for miles without it bothering me... I mean the only thing that ever stopped me from really being able to run distance is the fact that I was a wee bit hefty in high school... I have since become a police explorer and got into a little bit better shape.

I was reading one of the threads earlier about deployement, and someone said that you can spend a lot if not the majority of your time deployed... the only question I have is the lengths... I know that they probably vary greatly, but is there an average perhaps? I have no problem with deployment... but my family might. I mean hell I am young... I look foreward to getting to see the world. My professor of criminal justice is an LTC (Ret.) who just got back from Iraq on a contract, something about helping train the police force, and he said he was at Bragg a while and that the unit can get deployed as often as every 90 days or so. Just looking for some insight on that.

Too many variables to give you a good honest answer. Best-case a couple of months, worst-case 12+. Keep in mind that mommy and daddy will have zero impact on how often and how long junior stays down range... If this is an issue for you, you might want to consider another line of work.

I think I was home for Christmas in 91 & 99. The rest I was deployed. A good portion of that time I was in Panama and leaves around the aniv of Just Cause were few and far between............

Your first couple of leaves you will go home, then realize that you would rather be in Fayetteville supporting single moms.

So your next few leaves are as far away from home and Fayettenam as you can get.............

No my parents dont even effect my decisions... they dont want me to join period. But I figured I could at least give them a heads up out of respect.

It's only boring if you don't fish. Learn to fish for bass and you will never be bored again.

Every base I have ever been to had some great bass fishing. Very little pressure since the general public does not have easy access.

This fish was caught at Ft. Bragg.

Nice fish brother. A guy caught a 7 pounder out of the pond on the north side of post the other day.

Adding on to my previous post at the top of this page, I am leaving tommorow morning for my physical and hopefully swearing in. We went over the requirements and my recruiter seems to think I will be okay... then it is just getting the job. I am going to be firm about getting the job, and not get stuck doing something I dont want to do in the Army. So, hopefully after tommorow I will be on my way to becoming an actual member of the 37F community. Wish me luck guys, I will post updates tommorow night.

And the verdict is... my throat is congested which the Doctor thinks caused me to fail the hearing. My toe...or lack there of passed fine, it was no big deal... but I failed the right ear at 1000 whatever it is they measure it by... I was pretty bummed, so now I am home on mega decongestants... and not in the Army yet. But I wont lose hope. Who knows, maybe I am jut congested. Well, I will update when I get to go back, which is either this Saturday, or next Wednesday.

No I haven't, at least not that I can recall... I am left handed and shoot on that side, so even though I like to sport shoot, it is my left ear...and I always have ear protection. And the CMO checked my ears... he said that they were some of the cleanest he had seen in a long time. But he did said my throat was inflamed a bit. He said that because I dont smoke, but I have been going to pool halls for the past two weeks were EVERYONE smokes, that it has irrated my throat which could be what is causing the congestion, and also blocking off the tube to my inner ear... So I am going to take it easy, take my meds and get better, and hopefully not be as nervous as last time, when all i could hear was my heartbeat in the headset... It kinda screwed me up. Thanks for the support though... I will become a 37F... I want it more than anything. I think I give the Army my best there. Not to mention you guys are all pretty kickass!

Well, I failed my hearing again. SoOo, I have to do a consult on that now... which is probably gonna eff me for airborn and all that good stuff, so I am considering going reserve 37f...to see if that works. I dunno. I will find out tommorow morning after my consult.

TPD1280

Hearing is a critical area for 37F regardless of component.

Go to the consult. The door is not closed until it's closed.

Let us know.

POS Knubby
16 April 2007, 22:15
Well, the door is closed. I spend about 10 hours sitting in a waiting room at MEPS because the consult guy for the E.N.T. was on vacation. So I didnt get my consult. They pushed my medical up and got a waiver anyways, because of how little I failed. but it turns out because I had to get the med waiver for my foot.... even though the doc had put a no restrictions on it, I am DQ'ed for airborne... ergo DQ'ed for active 37F. Now I am at home because I wanted to come home and just think about it for a while... which pissed off my recruiter's boss, who called me all pissed. Long story short, I need to figure out what I want out of the Army, and see if it still has what I need. I originally wanted to go reserve MP because I am trying to become a deputy sheriff where I live, and it counts as police academy for us down here in West Palm... I was given that option at MEPS for reserve MP and I am thinking of taking it. So, I am sorry guys, you wouldnt even know how bad I fought to get this job to... At least I can say I tried.

MP is a good job, I did it for quite a while. Lots to do within that CMF. Understand that you will deploy. MP's are a much demanded commodity overseas.

Knubby, i was an MP as well, it's going to be as great as you make it. take the training seriously and believe in what you do, whether it's Combat MP or Garrison. be good and be safe.

Knubby, I admire your perseverance. My suggestion to you is now knowing what your limitations are go to the recruiters in each service and find out what MOS's are available to you. Spend some time researching them and then make an intelligent choice. You might find something you will end up enjoying more than what your first choice was. Bend with the wind. Don't let it break you.

I hear what you are saying, I was talking to a retired officer who told me to look into the Air Force Security Forces, he said that they are a good group of people. I may just go reserve as I originally intended, because I would like to keep up with my college, who knows maybe catch a commision. But I have definatly decided to call the other branches to see what's available to me. I have great scores, and I have no law violations, so I think I will be good to go. I definatly did NOT appreciate the way my recruiter's boss called me and yelled at me trying to make me feel worthless for not signing right there... then she had three other people call me and try and talk me into it... the sneaky b****. I was pretty mad about that. Either way I am going to continue on the forum, because you guys have a wealth of information that has been extremely helpful. It is a shame I can't get in to the job.

Once again, thanks for all your help, support, advice, etc. etc.
