View Full Version : TEAM WEEK
I heard they took Team Week out of SFAS is this true?....Are they focusing even more on Land Nav. then?!?
Or you could just follow the orange cones, don't make any sharp turns unless directed to by either cadre or a sign, and oh yeah, DO THE BEST YOU CAN CANDIDATE!

BEWARE, THE BITTERMAN STILL LIVES AHHHHHH!
BTDT,
Reliable source (guy who's working in SWCS) told me that yes, team week was dropped in favor of adding more land nav (culminating in a mini-Trek) and instruction in SUT, as many guys were getting selected, but failing Phase I due to land nav and SUT. At first, when I heard they dropped team week, I had some heartburn over the decision, as I saw team week as a real gut check and good initial culling mechanism. Then, after some thought, I figured regardless of whatever decisions came from the white house, the NCOs out at McKall (yeah, I know its now the RTF, but some habits are hard to break) would do their absolute best to ensure the Groups aren't filled with boneheads and slackers.
Incidentally, I was also told that SFAS is now "Phase I", with the old Phase I now being Phase II, etc, and BMLC is Phase V and SERE is Phase VI, thereby "phasing" the entire pipeline.
Yes, Team Week is gone.
There are a few 'squad' based events though, however more are needed.
I just got back from class 06-01.
I got selected for 18D.
There is alot more land nav training and the part about the Trek is true.
The STAR land nav is now part of SFAS (phase one) as stated above. At least if you get all of your points in SFAS they said we didn't have to do it again in phase two.
Contrary to what is written above, there is no SUT in phase one. That is all for phase two.
Hope this helps clear it up.

Kolt:
Are you in the National Guard? I'm from the VAARNG and I'm heading down for the next class in two weeks. Congrats. Maybe I'll see you at Phase 2.
Makane
Kolt,
You need to buy an Anatomy and Physiology coloring book at a good book store and start coloring!
Friday night needs to be your only night out when you enter the course. The entire rest of the week is to train and study at night. This means Saturday and Sunday too.
You will see others not follow these
"PEARLS OF WISDOM " and fail. It is a long process, but if you really want it, you can succeed.

We had a kegger (more often than not) every Friday night at the old barracks at Ft. Sam during 300F1. Kind of a "decompression" from the previous week's exams. That and "Betty's Battalion" could help keep us on an even keel!
Trident....man, do I remember those!! Did you guys ever go out to the Pioneer Motel? The class after mine (with all the Rangers) had some killer parties out ther, that I attended. Man, we killed some serious brain cells!
Anyway, Doc is right on....get started on the anatomy books, the pharm books, and become failiar with the NATO War Surgery Handbook. Yeah, it's old school, but the basics are the same. Pharmacology is a make or break topic.
Don't forget to blow off the steam....it will come naturally, trust me!

A&P is coming back. Finally going to be a month long again.
TRIDENT... bettys bn rocked! we usually hit that right after ALMA's.... then we would head out to sunova beach, or billy marvels, or kramers or..... the list goes on.... damn i miss that place................
Thanks all for the advice.
The A & P book they are using for the course right now is called The Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology by Martini and Bartalemeau (spelling).
Makane, no I'm not guard, AD RA, stationed in Friedberg. I'm 11M right now.
I've also been told flash cards are the way to go for pharmacology.
Any other suggustions?
I can use all of the help I can get.
Makane, just a word of adice, it's all about route planning and staying out of the draws. If you're going in June, there will be less water too, lucky you, but you still have the heat.
Good luck and don't quit.
Kolt
Kolt,
Yesterday I ran into a friend of mine(18B) who is currently an OT(out of training)18D student thanks to the A&P section. He is waiting for the next class and his chance to pass this section. I gave him the same advice about the A&P coloring book that I gave you. He didn't take that advice. Now he has his own copy of it and is currently out at Camp Mackall's TMC 14 working as an ambulance driver and in his spare time he colors in his book.
These guys at the SOMTB are not messing around. I worked there during my tour in SWCS and they are not about to let someone who is not up to it work on one of our Team mates.
You are about to go thru one of the most intense periods of time in your life. Do not allow yourself to be complacent. Get the coloring book and start coloring. If you want to email me with questions, you are clear to do so. I don't know you, but I am here to help you if I can.

DOL
Doc,
Thanks again for the advice.
According to Amazon, the book is in the mail, along with a physiology coloring book which I figured wouldn't hurt.
When I was a civilian, I was an EMT-I, so I have been reviewing my old books on that in the mean time.
Thanks for the email/questions offer. If I come up with anything, I'll be sure and ask.
All advice and suggustions are greatly appriciated.
