Hey folks, Hope to get some intel on training courses. I have been trying to get into the business for a year and a half now. More specifically, PSD/ Close Protection. I have come to the realization that there are a lot more qualified people, with alot more operational experience than myself, competing for the same positions. I have completed a PSD course, and am wondering if where you do the course has any bearing on what companies will look at you. I am a non-US citizen, so I understand that I've a snowballs chance in hell to get on with a US company, but does it really make a difference where you do your training? I am thought of training with through another company, but with the costs already incurred through the other course, I was wondering where I could get the most bang for my buck, so to speak, but more important, who is providing top notch training right now. Thanks in advance for your input.

Cheers,

Just from my own experience, all training is good, but I would have gotten work without it. Most people that I've worked with haven't done any training on their own. Having said that, I always consider it an investment in my future, plus I've had fun at every course I've done. And I've gotten far quicker responses than other guys who haven't taken it upon themselves to get further training. If two guys are up for the same job, it only makes sense that the one with the thicker resume is going to get it.

You can find a lot of good info by searching this site, there are a lot of good training providers, and a lot of unknown or irrelevant ones.

Massgrunt, I hear ya. I consider training important. It's just hard to know where to go. I completed one course, and am already considering another, but if it doesn't start paying off....I've noticed some providers actually help market their graduates, but am unsure at the results they get compared to those that do ot help market their grads. Any intel on that anyone? Thanks again....this community is a great resourse.

From an LEO standpoint, there are tons of great schools out there. For the most part, if the tactics are safe and practical, then it is a good school. If it is taught by a bunch of ass clowns, and I have wasted time at some that were, then it is a bad school. In the LEO community, name recognition probably does not carry the same weight that it would in the field that you are trying to get into.

If you are looking for names to go with good training do a search on this site. Alot of great info and probably some instructors to boot. If you are not into the whole search thing, try Olive (formerly TEES), Triple Canopy is now doing training, Blackwater and Singleton Intl to name a few. I would recommend driving schools in addition to the tactical side of the house.

This board is helpful and honest enough to let you know ahead of time if the school is GTG or not. Find a school, post the question and guarenteed you will get results.
