Do SDV Teams spend almost all of their time working with SDVs, or do they also spend a lot of time working on other SEAL skills (e.g. HALO, HAHO, land navigation, shooting, etc.)? In other words, is an SDV Team like any other SEAL Team, but with the added responsibility of operating SDVs? Or are they quite different?
similar capabilities
different mission focus/emphasis

Meridian,
SDV SEALs go through the same training as "regular" SEALs, with the addition of SDV training and some advanced diving (semi-closed circuit.) In a SDV platoon or Task Unit, there are primary pilots/navigators who "fly" the boat and there are "tacticians" who operate out of it. Both elements are considered "operators" because they each have their own ops. The pilots & navigators concentrate on infilling/inserting the guys in the back (Tacticians), as well as conducting ship attacks and selected demo raids. for the guys in the back, the SDV is just another mode of insertion to conduct "regular" SEAL ops.
The perception that SDV guys are merely taxi drivers couldn't be farther from the truth. SDV'ers are some of the hardest cats in the SpecOps world. Take care, my friend.
