"THE ANZAC MEMORIAL

Those heroes that shed their blood And lost their lives...
You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country.
Therefore, rest in peace.
There is no difference between the Johnnies
And the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side,
Here in this country of ours.
You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries...
Wipe away your tears.
Your sons are now lying in our bosom And are in peace.
After having lost their lives on this land, they have
Become our sons as well.

Attributed to Kemel Attaturk"

One time, long time ago, some Soldier educate me about this day. Many toasting of drink are involved, so some of the memory are not so clear. :)

But I recall that all of the stories involve great valor. So here is the reminder of ANZAC Day.

Here here. The Military Channel recently had an episode of it World War I show about the campaign against the Ottomans at Gallipoli and the Middle East. It is a mostly neglected topic in US History courses that cover the First World War. The beating taken by the Brits in Iraq and the ANZAC expeditionary force at Gallipoli was a tough deal...

RIP to those brave men of the ANZAC who lost their lives at Gallipoli...

They shall not grow old,
as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
But in the going down of the sun,
and in the dawn, we shall remember them
Amen.

I was in Gallipoli...

... in 2000...

Oooooooh, sorry. Nevermind.

A solemn thanks to those who have served and sacrificed that others might live in freedom.
