Hello All,
This is my first time here and as it turns out I am very curious about a lot of things. I'm a 21 year old PFC from Central Iowa and I am currently in AIT at Fort Jackson to be a 42F which is Human Resources Information Systems Management Specialist. I just found out this week that my first assignment after AIT is to the 160th SOAR. I've only been in the Army since Jan 11th of 2007 and don't really know how any of this is supposed to work. I'm not sure how I ended up getting assigned to the 160th, but I've been reading about it and it sounds like a very cool place to be. I've gotten the info about the Green Platoon training and all of that, but don't really know much else about what I'll have to do besides that. Any info you guys can provide will help alot. Thanks

Do your job to the best of your ability.
Keep your mouth shut regarding what you see, read, hear, and do at work. Loose lips actually do sink ships (helicopters), and we happen to be at war.
Do your job to the best of your ability.
Don't quit. EVER.
Welcome to the Mean Green :)

I'm assuming 42F is a PAC rat. Any SOCOM unit would be a plus for an admin MOS. You'll get to do things/training you would have never imagined.
Make sure you treat everyone you work with with dignity and respect. They are the reason you are there. Also most all the civilians are prior Nightstalkers. They can help you or screw you.
Good Luck!

G Smith-
I know squat about the 160th, but as one support guy to another...
Always remember that you are there to take care of the customer (soldier). They are NEVER an inconvenience and are the only reason you exist. Never think that they are there to serve your needs.
Good luck.

Dont forget that just because you are a PAC guy doesn't mean you dont represent the unit.
Take pride in your work.
Dont forget that you are there to make the lives of those guys on the sharp end of the spear EASIER, NOT HARDER.

No great mind here. I've just seen enough of my fellow staff pukes try to push around the customer and I've been sickened by the whole thing. Nothing pisses me off more than staff guys that think the line platoons sit around all day waiting to do the staff's bidding.
When I was on the 2nd MarDiv staff in 2004-05, I had MEF staff call me one day at 1000 to tell me that they needed a serialized list of all PRC-117s in the divison NLT 1500 so they could turn a report into MarCorSysCom. They honestly thought that every regiment and battalion in the division would drop everything to get this list done in less than five hours (and that's including lunch/PT time).
When I threw the BS flag, and told them that it would take a couple of days, their response was that SysCom "had to have it today". They really didn't understand why the regiments and seperate battalions couldn't get it done so fast...

Congratulations, remember it's not just a job, it's an . . . oh, wait . . . ARMY TRAINING SIR! And I have seen it but I had to research it on my own:

Thanks guys,
I'm the type of person who tries my hardest, and I know my job is to support combat MOS's. I'm excited about being a Night Stalker and the training that goes along with it. Will I have to go to air assault school as well as the green platoon training?
You won't find your answers on the Internet, you'll find them at your next duty station. The fact you're already on the internet talking about it, and not even there yet, doesn't speak well of you.
When you make it through GP, you'll get briefed, if you get to Ft Campbell and get put in the 101st before ever seeing the front side of the 160th, don't be suprised.

I didn't mean to say anything that I shouldn't have, I was just trying to gain any information that would be helpfull. I want to be the best soldier I can be and be prepared in advance, that's all.
gsmith 22.... focus not on this site and its wealth of info, but rather on getting yourself through HR Info Systems Management school and Green Platoon. As ACE said, there's nothing for you here at the moment... we're not oriented toward your AIT nor GP. Refocus instead on the 50 meter target... completion of your AIT. Then the next target, then the next. Before you know it you'll be a salty old dog who knows B from Bullsfoot, and S from Shinola. Having that experience you'll know how to keep yerself outta trouble that you really don't need. Trust me, this is easy to do, especially when you're new.
Check outta the net, and come back in six months when you've got some deeper creases in your Army boots :)
Good luck
