Hello all!

Just a quick question or two for those in Federal LE...

I am currently in the process (1811) with two agencies, DEA being one of them. I took my medical exam for both and passed, HOWEVER, I have been told by both that I need to have further, more extensive eye examinations because I had laser eye surgery about six years ago. These exams are at my own expense and so far the only place that can do the exam that I can find is going to charge me $300.00 for the test. Has anyone had this exam (it looks to be a standard testing protocol) and has anyone NOT passed it? I guess I am a little nervous of shelling out $300.00 for a job(s) I might not get, since I am just a poor local cop with no money!!!!
Also, I took the polygraph for the other agency recently, and quite frankly, it was one of the most bizarre things I have endured. After about four and a half hours, I was accused of lying about my prior drug usage (I had not lied about anything!) and was somewhat raked over the coals about it. I have been a cop for ten years and the polygraphists were doing their routine straight out of the Reid Interview and Interrogation textbook. Is this a standard federal LE employment screening practice to see how I would react, or do I need to worry that these guys screwed up? I have taken two polygraphs before and had no problems at all.

Thanks!

Ski:

From what I understand about the polygraph that is normal practice. I have a couple of buddies that I know that went through it and is sounds like they did the same thing to them. However, they did not say anything about four hours on it that sounds like an awfully long time to be examined.

Sorry, but I have no idea about the eye surgery. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, it makes me feel a bit better! I spoke with a DEA agent tonight and he said he went through the same routine and that he thought he had "failed" it when he took the test, based on the examiner's conduct.

Another three-letter Fed agency put me through the ringer on the poly, and I thought for sure I had failed. Somehow, I passed. But I felt like a turd when it was done...

1811,

Thanks for the reply! Like you, I felt like sh!t when I left outta there...my lifelong goal of being in federal LE, working full time and finishing my degree (and costing a small fortune!) while sacrificing time with my wife and son...all going down the tubes because of some guy I never met before in my life decided that my heart rate was too high. I took my psych exam for DEA today, so I am hoping one of the two will work out. If FBI would have been accepting apps when I applied at the other two...I guess I would really be going crazy now!! Again, thanks. You have helped put my mind at ease a bit.
