Native American company I believe headquartered out of Alaska. They have mostly site security based contracts, all levels, all pay scales.

I was on Wake for a few months back in 2002 on an EOD job and it is a nice place to visit for the history. No women, lots of booze, lots of deep sea fishing and diving. Only 130 people on the Island, 95% being Thai men who take care of everything from laundry, to maintenence to cutting hair. A very "odd" group of Americans assigned there as contractors, but good people. I highly recommend the gig. As for the Alaskan owned company they are actually a good firm.

If you go take your passport...they are authorized to stamp it and it is a very unique stamp and only a few people have it!

I applied for this position last year; it requires a Top Secret clearance per the recruiter. It may have changed but not likely. Just for FYI

Have to have a TS......that comes straight from the company's website.

I have been to Wake once before....good time....Chowhall is tops. They have Thai's that doe the base support and they cook damn good Thai food there...

They use to grab the Cops on Kwaj to do those missions (that's how I got there). It will be a lot of static posts and a lot of nothing going around but the money looks real good.....

Plus you can get on a golf cart and chase the birds if you get really bored.....and have to do a patrol...... :D

Nothing classified here, so please no hammering about OPSEC....

For those who don't know about the current use of Wake it is part of the Air Force (who now own it) and their space defense under the RTC. There are three locations involved...Wake, Kwaj and Vandy (which may have changed a little since I was there). During a mission, one will fire the target missile (I believe old Trident missiles), one will fire the Penetrator, and one will track the whole thing. I believe they switch missions a few times a year.

The TS is likely due to the penetrator. It used to have a viz class, and likely still does. When they fired it in the past on Wake everyone had to go inside and stay until a certain time after launch. There is an AWESOME video out there in web-land of the target missile launching off Wake. Someone simply took a cheap Radio Shack camera and attached it with liquid nails and turned it on. After launch you see the island, then it quickly rises above and goes out into space...then POW! Great vid if you can find it.

The Island is a great place for history of the war, as well as Thai history. Many amazing people work on the Island. The barber was the former multi-world champ in kick boxing.

Shark fin soup, shashimi, barricuda steaks, and raw Ahi are always available. The diving is great but back when I was there you had to already have your certs to dive because they just did not want to deal with training people. The deep sea fishing was with hand-lines off the back of the boat, and it is the most awesome experience in the world! Never believed there was such a thing as a flying fish until I went to Wake!

It will be a great experience for whoever goes, and you'll likely get a few days on Oahu in each direction.

Does anyone know if Wake Island would be considered outside the U.S. for tax exemption purposes. I would tend to think not, since it is a U.S. territory if I'm not mistaken.

Wake is technically considered to be in Hawaii. You do pay taxes there....but it is worth it!

Negitive (as far as I know....and you can't even do that on Kwaj unless your LT or above in their ranking system)..... As there is very, very limited barracks space on Wake.....and you will be more than likely shacking with some other Joe while you're there....

All the married guys I knew sucked it up for 6 months via email/phone......and then would take vacation at HOR or Hawaii and have family meet them there.....then go back for final 6 months....

Small Clinic if I remember correctly......and if you go to the link I provided.....they are looking for folks.... It has the requirements and some other info.....

Not much going on there......I would suspect some tramua from time-to-time from workers falling and/or cutting stuff off.....maybe some kitchen accidents.....perhaps some dive stuff every now and then (I think the closet chamber would be Kwaj...).....but that would be about it......
