Mr. Jones,

Funny that I should check SOCNET shortly after finishing a video review and then seeing your post. I have just finished watching two videos: "Krav Maga: First Strike - Volume One" produced by Skymeister and "Navy Seal Team H2H Combat Training - Volume One" produced by Panther starring Frank Cucci. Both are quite well done with great production and effects going to the Krav Maga video.

I will make the statement which some will probably not agree with [and thereby keep life interesting] that both videos being volume one contain [to some degree] the very similar methodology and fighting techniques that point directly to a simple/basic "military looking" fighting system and not a "new" fighting system. Frank Cucci does make it a point to share at the beginning of the video that the video contains techniques that were taught at the Navy Seal H2H Class. I found that even the Krav Maga echoed much of the American combative basics yet incorporated some more advanced techniques that could be claimed from several other unarmed fighting systems.

I have heard/read that many folks swear by Krav Maga and other programs that sell videos and offer seminars, but there is nothing "new" about their techniques that anyone that has been in and around the Martial Arts world has not seen either directly or in the breaking down of the kata or forms that they practice. What I think Krav Maga does do is a great job at marketing their product and breaking down the techniques in an easier format for most people to grasp quickly [much like the military].

Just my 2 cents!! Take care...

I`d like to make a few comments on Krav Maga.

1. Please differentiate between the "commercial" type Krav Maga that you see marketed to the public in the US, and the Krav Maga taught to military units. I believe that there is a wide difference.

2. I don`t believe that there is anything "new" under the sun. Just new ways of marketing old stuff.

3. There's nothing necessarily wrong with the old stuff.

4. Krav Maga (as taught to military spec-ops personnel), has as much to do (or more), with turning on the "killer, animal instinct" then with "Is technique X better than technique Y?". Rather Krav Maga is about using the technique that you`re using NOW, use it with total aggression, don`t give up until the bad guy is down & out.

5. You`ll often find that Krav Maga instructors put in their own mix of whatever has influenced them, and many also train in a particular style (kickboxing, ju-jitsu, whatever). The actual Krav Maga techniques are all pretty basic. Definitely nothing new.

Hope this clears up a few misconceptions.

Take Care...
