Has anyone trained in this martial art before?

What are your thoughts, positive, negative, applicable, etc?

I just saw it being demonstrated on the Today show about 45 minutes ago. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of some of those hits.

All I know about this martial art is that it was developed for the Israel Defense Force(IDF) Special Forces (SF). Now is also used by civilians all around the world. If you want to know more about this martial art you have alot of sites on the internet.

Thank you.

:D Hey,I like this martial art but I am not quite good in it.
Because I never train in Israel but if I have some time.
I think I will try it.
It look like to use for train local law enforcement in U.S.A. too.
For train cops.
Mainly of thier movement to fight against people who have weapons in hands by useing bare hands.
Actually, they use thier elbows more than hands.
(Because sometime they use their hand grabing their sidearm)
So they use elbows while thier hand hold the gun.:D
Very very interesting,huh???:D
They still hold their weapons in the hands and use another parts of their body to fighting in same time.
I think this's the good point of Kravmaga.:D
Like I said I am not quite good in this martial art but I think I will train more if I have enough time.
And if I have somebody to teach me.
I learned this stuffs from self-learing.
From life-experience.
But if somebody can teach me more I will very very appreciate.
Bye.:D

Pros:
*easy and fast to learn (if you got a good instructor (just make sure it is) you'll be pretty good and feel confident in handling most normal "street-threats" in probably 50-100 hours or so, effective time).

*Effective self defense (the civvie version that is. Mil version is more offensive).

Cons:

*Even civvie self defense version can be VERY agressive if you're not careful (might not be good in all situations or for all persons).

If you plan to train just remember to be humble about it; This is self defense, not some kick-ass-on-the-street martial art.

Effective, yes. The best, no. I think it is very good for self defense at a basic, tough level. I believe that you can do better for yourself with other arts if you want to put the time in.

And yes I am a martial arts geek, & yes I have done some Krav Maga in Israel.

You're probably right; the best, maybe not, but I'd say it's one of the most time efficient self defense techniques.

If anyone should want "the best" (I wouldn't know which one since I'm not a, as you put it, a martial arts geek, I just want to be able to protect myself on the street and have a reasonable chance of taking some other guy out in the field should my firearms fail) one would have to put in a lot more time in just martial arts/self defense. Personally I don't have that time since my work requires me to learn and train a lot of other stuff too. I guess that's a personal thing though.

But hey, that's just my $0.02.

Simple and efficient
You have not to be a master to use it
You have not to study every week to know the techniques

Realy good for the training's soldier who didn't it every day
