This is for J.R. or RangerHazen or anyone else with experience in the area.
I am wanting to get back into martial arts (I was a jujitsu student in my teens) and need advice on how to find a decent dojo...I want to avoid the flashy schools that give you a black belt after 2 years and send you on your way.
Anyways, I was just wondering if you had any pointers when checking a potential school out. I have been looking at either Jujitsu or Aikido.
Thanks for any help.

(P.S. There is a Manseikan Aikido school in my area, but I can't seem to find any info on this particular form of the art. Any clues?)

A few POC's:

http://www.karatebc.org/associations/shotokan/naska.html

(Above is part of JKA, -the- Shotokan org, means it's the real deal)

http://www.aikido.bc.ca/dojos/index.html

(Aikikai-affiliated dojo's in Vancouver area)

Something to look at, is the affiliation, or lack thereof, with the Japanese organizations. If someone says his dojo or club is Shotokan, and he isnt affiliated with the JKA, something's up. Might want to post over on the members lounge on...

Vancouver has Bue Coupe Kung Fu clubs as well if im not mistaken. Ill see if I cant come up with a POC for ya. I know that Wushu is big in your area as well as some of the other classical styles. Do you know that little Martial Arts Supply store down in China Town? I buy gear there sometimes when im up in the big C. I dont know the Name of the street its on but its all the way down on the end of one street, not really by anything else. Might pop in there and see if they have any info.
