Introduction

I went to university for Sociology and had a dual major with Biology, until my last semester, when I dropped the latter down to a minor. My junior year I traveled to China for a class and I can speak a little Mandarin. Since college, I've done very little and see PSYOPS as a sort of 'applied sociology'. This is something I seriously want to pursue, however, I fear my days of high school football have left me the joints of an old grandfather.

Currently, I am thirty years old and had ACL knee surgery approximately two years ago. There was also some meniscus that needed trimming. I was finally able to have somebody operate on it after ten years. Right now, it's doing rather well and I can spend 60 minutes on the elliptical under the "Interval" setting -a good night will be 2.7 miles.

In a few days I will meet up with a recruiter and will see what the situation is for 37F. I'm sure a waiver will be needed from the surgery. Over the phone, he asked me if the scar was "big". I mentioned it was visible while thinking to myself that "perhaps my genes for fur will be of use here."

My Question

Has anyone heard of other people in 37F that also have similar injuries prior to enlistment and been able to bypass the disqualification?

Granted by only going to the MEPS will I find out for sure. I see that Airborne is also needed, as well as Option 40. The site I found from these guys is inconsistent on whether a past knee injury is the end of the road.

You have your answer right there. There is only one way to find out. Good luck.

ETA: By going USAR you can avoid the Airborne requirement, and will probably still be able to walk without a total knee replacement by the time you are 40. You will still do the job and you will still deploy.
