If you know anyone that does this in Nevada or NorCal, I'd love to know. I have access to some older tanks for nearly nothing but they're out of hydro. That and a VIP certificate and I'm in business.

Thanks.

Because of the aluminum nazis, all aluminums now with certain serial numbers are automatically condemned and not hydroable.
Here is the DOT list of those who can. http://hazmat.dot.gov/sp_app/approvals/hydro/hydro_retesters.htm

Great link. Thanks, SDV. One of the guys at work has some AL80's and some steels that we want to get hydro'd and start using. I just need to get my regs re-built first. Not enough cash for the new stuff right now.

Well I HAD a couple of AL80's from the late 90's and they was on the list so check before ya buy used. As for steels, the steel haters PADI nazis haven't jack them up yet so you may be OK. Check the website to be sure. Somewhere they give the condemned tank numbers/info. Trying to find it....

Not that it helps much...

But the DOT reg change Jan. 2007 requires visual eddy testing of the older AL alloy tanks concurrent with hydro and an additional stamp VT after the hydro when completed.

They are still legal to use and have filled... That said, none of the dive shops around here will touch them even fresh out of hydro.

Don't go through a SCUBA shop unless it is someone you know giving you a deal, look in the phone book for a hydro facility. Most do fire extinguishers and may be listed under fire apparatus.

Don't pay over $20.00 for hydro.

Here in Charlotte we take ours to a Fire extinguishers place in Concord. He does them for 1/3 of the price. Might be worth looking into, they have to hydro those extinguishers too...

Have any HP Steel 100s? Does he want to sell them?

No, just some stuff he had when he was still diving a lot fresh out of the teams and working boat hulls for cash. Steel 72's, AL80's, and I think that's about it.

I'm going to a shop in Reno tomorrow so I'll see what they have for sale on the used rack. I should be able to get a used tank, Nitrox clean and hydro'd for less than a C note.
