Anybody got any? I see alot of them, but don't know heads or tails about what would be a good set.

Preferably I am looking for some with "ditching" capabilities, i.e. after the rope I take 'em off, clip them to a D-ring or carabiner and then drive on. Or ones that double as a rappel glove and a shooting glove.

Been looking for some ever since I burned the crap outta my hands from the black standard issue shells/green liners. Then again, I was probably doing it wrong (boot camp).

You should be able to find some with reinforced palms. Back in my day we were issued gloves that were white in color for roping.

Those black issue gloves aren't even good enough to garden with......

Grab a Blackhawk catalog and check out their Hellstorm line of gloves. Lots of different good options, purposes and configurations. Im sure you could find a good choice there.

Hatch makes a 1/2 finger over-glove that fits over their regular CQB/Operator gloves and it looks like a good idea; but I haven't used them.
I have a pair of PMI Lightweight Gloves that work awesome for me.

How frequently you rappel, and whether it is applied tactically or just for training purposes, should determine the type of glove you get.

For fastroping, I use just plain welding gloves. They are easy to ditch. For rappeling I use CMC rappel gloves

Anyone remember what the big rough-hide gloves we used in the Corps, back in the 80's? I used those for fastroping and rappelling. In fact for rappelling, I've used those for REALLY heavy loads, and while I would not have wanted to shoot a pistol with them on -- they were fine for rifle firing (short-term, until you could get them off).

I always snapped them to a carabiner after getting off the rope....

I remember those, although it certainly wasn't back in the 80's. The only peeps that I remember wearing those were the HRST guys at the rappel towers in Boot and JWTC. When it came to us regular 11's, they just told us to wear our black gloves with the green liners and that we'd be fine. Of course I didn't know what the hell I was doing, so I burned the shit outta my hands......both times.

I have a pair of the Hatch over glove and to me, it is a little restrictive for shooting with the Operator glove under it.

There is a company called SouthWest Motorsports that makes a glove that is supposed to be "THE BEST" glove for rapelling, fast roping and shooting all in one. The only thing is, that they go for around $80! I guess if you are rich...

I haven't done much rapelling but have a pair of cheap $10 leather gloves with reinforced palms I got at Walmart. I have used them in the past in the rapelling class and they worked. The only thing is that they are not "Tactical Black" as they are tan. Here is a link for the Friction Fighter gloves I was talking about above:

I have the South West gloves. They are great for CQB. I have fast roped several times with them (4 slides varying between 20-30ft or higher depending on the audience:D) They held up, but did get hot. They are great in the tactical mode, but if I used them every time we trained on the ropes, they would get ruined very fast. Nice thing is SWMS really stands behind their product. Bought out by Camelbak, but still great service. Call Martina if you want to try them.

I would not use them for rappel, the rope would eat through them and burn your hands badly.

Currently I use a pair of SWMS heat grips with a pair of rough cow hide work gloves over them. The gloves are cheap and you can throw them off pretty quick once you reach the ground. If you lose them , they were like $8.
