Has anyone read Lenox Cramer's Slow Dance on the Killing Ground? Its supposed to be a fictional account of his tour with SOG.

Scout,
I haven't, but I will look for it. I'm running out of Vietnam era books. I generally do not go for the fiction. However, some that I have read seem to be borderline! Maybe the memorys aren't right- on after so many years! I can't talk. I have some photos of camps that I can't remember their names.

As mentioned in a below thread, I just finshed James Donahue's Blackjack-34 (Previously titled No Greater Love). I think it is a great account of that mission.

Take care!

Hey Carl,

Anyone out there know of the where abouts of a book called "The Dying Place"? It's written by a SOG vet named David Maurer. Have read it several times and would like to track down a copy of the book.

It's his fictional account of a tour in SOG, with the operations of a few teams in CCN wrapped into the fictional account of this book. Excellent material.

Take care

Hi Carl,

I'm reading Blackjack-34 now, I'm about 75 pages into it. Honestly, I think this is the best of the three he's written. They keep getting better (ok, I knwo this was the first one published. :-).

I read Cramer's book in the early 90s and I barely remember it. I thought it was good at the time, but I have no idea if it was accurate of cheesy. Found it for 2 bucks the other day, so I'm wondering if I should get it.

PS, I'm no longer a scout, I transferred to MID, 1/20th SFG(A), I'm assigned to aSupport Operations Team Alpha. But I'll keep this Username for now. :-)

Triggerfly,
As far as I know Mauer's book is out of print. You might check the library or see if the can orderit through their network.
It is a great book and I read it after meeting Dave in a local pub.He only lived here for a few years but in that time he became a local legend with the law around here.
Some rugby players were in town for the tournament they used to have at Pebble Beach.
They started to give day crap about 'Nam.
Dave took it outside and beat the poo out of all four. The cops showed up in the middle but since it was Mauer they just waited until he was done. Then he stood up,put his hands on his head, they cuffed him and he walked quitley to the car.Because it was "self defence" he was later released.
Nice guy,but he could be scary when he'd been drinking.I was sitting with him at the bar and he clasped hes hand on my shoulder(his hands are like bricks) and looked at me and said"Buddy..Sing with me.." His grip and his gaze told me I was going to be singing.
So we sang something like 34 verses of "Blue Suede Shoes".I bought his book the next day.
