RifleMaster,

Another book you should look for is Gone Native: An NCO's Story by Alan Cornett. He served with the "Old Foul Dudes" and is mentioned in the Six Silent Men series, and as an SF medic in Phoenix.

"Gone Native" kicked ass, it was one of the most interesting "SF" books I read in a LONG time. What a character this man was, from LRRPing for the 101st, to living with the 'Yards to, then with the point element of a project Phoenix team, smoking opium, then to fragging one of his officers in Vietnam to Levenworth, to helping one of his loyal Viet-Phoenix comrades escape from Vietnam to the US. What a book! Cool pictures too. Buy it.. Ler..

Hey Now! Don't spoil it for me! ;-) I just started, up to chapter 5, his first deployment with B-52. Awesome so far! All that and he still made SGM! Definitely a different Army that ours today.

Sorry Scout, I didn't mean to tell too much, I still think you'll enjoy though. 6 yrs in Vietnam,,,CRAZY.. Although I find it interesting to read about those who were there near the end of our involvement; 1971/1972. Do you have any recommendations?
