I recently finished a book titled "Unconventional Warfare: Rebuilding US Special Operations Forces" by Susan Marquis (sp?) from the Brookings Institute. It is a pretty dry read, but offers a Washington-view history of USSOCOM. I am wondering if anyone else has read this and what their thoughts are?

She works at DOD and it was published by the Brookings Institution. If she cleared her book through USSOCOM, the book will not be published or half of the pages will be deleted.

Mike,
The copy I read is copyrighted 1997 and is 270 pages. It does not have any literature with respect to having been cleared by anyone (nothing in the text can't be found elsewhere). Do you think this was the full book? If not, what topics (in the most general terms)do you think/know got bumped?

All in all I thought it was an informative book. If you are familiar with the points, do you agree at too many operators are being brought up into traditionally staff-oriented positions of SOCOM?

The back cover also mentions that she is a fellow at Brookings (mumbling: rich no goodnicks with all their money and proximity to SAIS...).
