Does anyone know anythign about a book titled Special Operations Forces: An Assessment by john M. collins?

If I remember correctly, it's not book but a paper done for the Congressional Research Service. You should be able to get a copy at your local library.

He first wrote in 1987:
United States and Soviet special operations : a study. prepared by the Congressional Research Service, Library of Congress; prepared at the request of the Special Operations Panel of the Readiness Subcommittee of the Committee on Armed Services, House of Representatives,
and then in 1994:

Scout, I have the book, as it was given out at some of our commands for free. You can get any of the info in it from the web (most of it on this site). There's really nothing special in the book.
