Posted this before, but I'll post it again. Anyone out there have any info on BORTAC (the Border Patrol's national tactical unit) REACT, SERT, or the INS teams (SRT, IRT, TIAT).

Any replys would be helpful. I've got a little info on the last BORTAC selection course (100 volunteered, 12 graduated), their invlovement in Operation Blast Furnace, and in Operation Reunion (the Elian Gonzolez raid), but that's it.

I dont have any info for you that you don't already have most likely. But I am curious as to were you got the info on those teams. If it's online somewhere could you post the webpages? I have found some pages with basic info on the BP and INS, besides the INS's official website. Just curious as to if you have found anymore?

We have "Border Patrol Employment" signs hanging around the Criminal Justice department offices at my school. I looked up the BP and INS on line and they sound like an interesting group.

Thanx

The info on BORTAC particpation in operation Snow Cap came from a copy of an article in Guns and Weapons for Law Enforcement, and the rest of the stuff was sent to me buy some guys I know at INS.

They sent it to me for use in a page I'm doing becuase they got tired of bad pressthey have been getting lately , and they know I'll give them a fair assesment.

I do tire of seeing all of the "Government storm trooper" articles on the net, and in the papers.

Well when you get done with the page let me know I would be interested in reading what you have to say.

Border Patrol: Good jumping off-point for Fed LE careers.

INS: Empty pool filled only with the stagnant puddles of warm water that once were people's careers. Avoid that agency, my friend. Like the plague.

I've got a friend over at INS(he started out with the BP, and is trying to go over the USMS) who would love to get in on this one.

I'm a Fed Agent with a large three letter agency. I work a Violent Crimes Task Force in LA.

I've had the misfortune of working with INS. They are, generally speaking, a rather incompetent group. Who actually wants to work there? In my opinion, the ONLY people who end up there are the ones that get bounced from ATF, FBI, DEA, USMS, USSS, etc.

An Academy classmate of mine was a former Agent for INS. He said he had to leave...it was that bad.

This does not apply to BP Agents. I think they have a great Agency.

Just my $.02...Perhaps I have only interacted with a bad bunch of INS Agents that are not representative of the Service as a whole. I don't know. But my opinion of them is not good, for whatever that is worth.

1811-
As a local assigned to a 3 letter agency TF, I pretty agree with you. They have a much smaller percentage of decent hard-working folks than the other alphabet agencies.

Well guys, your right to a point. I work for INS. I'm the guy so sent DOminque the stuff on INS. I know some of the INS' agents are pretty bad, but I have worked with agents from other agencies that were just as bad. One of INS problems is the hiring of Outstanding Scholars right out of school as Special Agents when they have three uniformed divisions to pull from. This only causes the good officers/agents to leave and this the new guys no experience to run things.
Another problem is no detention space. So there is nothing you can do. Within the last three months I have let five agg. felons with a promise to show up because of no space.
I started off in the Border Patrol and its no different from any other INS branch, except a little more dangerous.
Thanks!

My two cents.
