Is anyone a fan of the oldschool ALICE rucks? I love them. I had a Blackhawk SOF pack it sucked. I had some wierd SOE ruck it sucked. Then I went back to old ALICE and I fell in love with it all over again.

I have to agree, I prefer the large ALICE. I took a brand new one to General Jackson's outside of Bragg and let Willy (?) do whole bunch of modifactions to it. Still prefer it to all others.

I haven't liked a single ruck that I've been issued since the Alice. MOLLE, SPEAR and some other wazoo packs, they're all floppy pieces of shit. (well, I do like the MOLLE suspension system)

Have used a MALICE pack since 2001 and it has never failed me.

The ALICE is the one I always come back to...Modify the straps and kidney pad and it is a great ruck...the radio pouch holds a PRC-117 nicely, although a few antennae hole modifications have to be made...my .02

Add a London Bridge suspension system and it is the HEAT!

Out of all the packs I was issued before I came over here (four, I think) the large ALICE is the one I brought; the rest are at home in my garage.

Good size, no-BS w/excess straps and flaps, easy to carry. What more could you want? :D

Love the ALICE, have to but a new one as mine finally failed (it lasted me 19years, two longer then my first marriage :0 ).

I'll have to see if General Jackson will take a mail order mod request.

If you asked while I was rucking, I'd say NONE of the above.

But I have to agree, the ALICE was a great piece of kit.

The ALICE is IMHO a great bit of kit. Add a little tweaking with specific mods, and you have an excellent piece of gear.

Ditto on ALICE...hated the first generation MOLLE. I caught a lot of crap from my plt sgt and company gunny when I kept my ALICE after were started using MOLLE. We had a corpsman, big dude, who could not wear that first gen MOLLE vest, so had to wear the old suspenders with the traditional mag pouches. Oddly, a lot of his kit was purloined by some of our Marines bec. it was much better...same for ALICE...sorry for the digression.
