I'm currently applying to several local Police Departments (Atlanta, and several county departments) and recently decided to expand my geographic interest to include other departments. Reason being, is that other than Atlanta and my own county department, I'd most likely have to relocate simply due to traveling time. My feeling was if I'm going to move 30 miles, why not 3,000.
LAPD is one of the Departments that I intended on applying with. I have encountered one problem though. On the LAPD online recruitment information it states vision no worse than 20/40 uncorrected; unless you're a wearer of soft contact lenses for 1 year. My vision is 20/70 and I wear glasses; although I'm not opposed to wearing contacts, but that would still take me out of applying for at least a year. I didn't see anything about LASIK or PRK eye corrective surgery on the site. Any idea if this is a disqualifier, or if there is an extended waiting period after surgery?
