Any officers on the board work in a K-9 unit?

If so, what types of K-9's are used by your department?

I know that U.S. Customs will use Labs and Beagles for drug sniffing and because that don't display much of a threat display; which is good for a dog working in an airport where 99% of the people encountered are law abiding citizens going about there business. But I'm curious as to what breeds are utilized on the street or for high risk searches. I know that GSD's and Mal's are extensively used; any other breeds used widely? I've heard of some departments fielding American Bulldogs; I was wondering if anyone worked with an AmBull in this role.

Thanks

I'm not a K-9 officer by any means. But at my
prison we have a K-9 Team consisting of 4 dogs.3 are German Shepherds that are trained
for patrol (attack) and drug detection.
and 1 Bloodhound trained for tracking (i.e.
escaped inmates). The Shepherds are used mainly for perimeter security, drug detection
inside the institution,quelling distubances
(i.e. riots and cell extractions). They work
alot with the TRT and SRT teams.
The K-9 team is comtinually providing mutual
aid to local and state police in everything
from drug busts to searches for missing
children.I believe to be a K-9 officer,a
CO (correctional officer)must go through
15 weeks of K-9 school at the Boston Police
K-9 training center.

Our agency uses Shepards and Malinois (not sure if I spelled that one right) they are all trained in apprehension and then cross trained in narcotics and explosives
