Here's the skinny:
John D. Villegas, born in '58. (I know, I know). I did verify he was a USMC tanker around 75-85, possibly ending up as a SSGT.
He claims F/R in RVN. Went to "Jump School in Okinawa and SCUBA school in the Phillippines".
Claims 2 Purple Hearts and possibly a Bronze Star.
Just want to confirm yea or nay. I'm not savvy with the USMC side of things. Thanks for any assistance.

This cat wasn't old enough to be in Nam. He would have been 10 during Tet.

The Marine Corps has an elite unit of 10 year olds known only as the "A" team
he must have been almost 11 when the Tet Offensive occured-and repelled the NVA/VC hordes personally :) . Do the math and check some history books CAMedic.........me-not a Recon guy (0341) but jezz man why ask when the guy was 16 or 17 when the evacuation of S. Vietnam occurred in 1975. I was a PFC at the time...G
Edit:also clicked the wrong profile of CAMedic....my bad the one I hit said college student.......and he is a bit more than that

Guys,
I KNOW about the age thing. I wanted to see if he was F/R AFTER the fact and just chose to include VN in his story line for the youngsters out there who don't add up two and four. He claims some other awards and we would like to confirm his status before we throw down the BS flag publicly.
We don't want to rely on his DD214 as those can be faked too easily now.
Thanks for the replies so far, at least I got some feedback. Cluseo, I WAS a member of the Infant A Team, however it was an ARMY unit, not F/R...:D Like I said, if I can look him in the eyes and tell him that "You were never in F/R, or Yes, you were in F/R, but during 1982", that would put an end to this.

Ask him which Company he was in and who his CO/1stSgt were. If he "can't remember" them, at least make him give you a Company. Without giving anything away his age not only precludes him from having served in VN it also would not have allowed him to have served in 2 of the FR companies due to a very specific reason.
Based on his age his claim to have attended jump school in Oki is as interesting as his claim of VN service.

SB,
He must have heard of that. We did send some guys to Oki for jump school in '69 from Quang Tri. The Army was running a school at Camp Sukeran (sp?). I knew them all. In 68 I went to the PI for SCUBA School.

SB and Fingers,
Thank you. Reading between the lines, I now have the information I was seeking. I will ask about his posting and who his CO/1SGT was. If there is anything more, I'll post it so that more laughs may be had by all.
