Clever. My dad said they used to run something similar when he played college ball. (late 60s/early 70s)

Only gonna get that one once though.....

We had a similar play on my basketball team in Jr. High.

Basically, when we would have an inbound play underneath the opponents basket, somebody would call for a timeout, without signalling, in a voice just loud enough for the opposition to hear, but not the ref.

Then 2 or 3 of us would start to move toward the bench on the sideline, and the other team would start to do the same, giving us 2 quick and easy points off the inbound pass.

Actually worked twice in one game, some subs that came in later didn't get the memo. :D

We had a play called "The Shoe String" in high school. It went like like this.

After a play is call down, the center would huddle the team on the line of scrimmage but about 10 or 15 yards to the strong side of the ball. This was done in hopes of drawing the defense to the offensive huddle and away from the ball. At the same time a running back or a receiver would kneel down at the ball and re-tie his school string. If the defense took the bait, the running back or the receiver would yell “hike!” and pick up the ball and start running. At the “hike!” the offensive huddle would quickly turn around and hit anybody on the defense that had not turned around to pursue the runner. If the defense did not take the bait, the QB broke the huddle with a predetermined play and the offense quickly moved to the ball and tried to catch the defense with a quick snap. The play worked a good number of times, but only once in a game! The play was mostly used during our “hurry up” or “2 minute offense”.

Wait, so it worked a few times but only once in a game? Does that mean it normally only worked during practice against your own team?:)

No, our own team knows what coming! It never worked against them! Geez!:D
