Well thanks to all the "hard working lawyers" corrections officers in VA have been restricted in the types of less than leathal shotgun ammo we can use.

We can no longer use bean bag rounds, wooden baton rounds and several of the larger caliber "Stinger rounds", Becuase the inmates lawyers have filed several BS lawsuits against us.

I guess they prefer I use 00 buckshot on their clients.

That last item sounds like a pretty good idea to me, though flechette rounds have their rewards as well.

Well, I say we boycott lawyers and use 00 buck. Take away thier client base. Go figure only a lawyer would take action against usually recipricle business.

Mr. Salter I like the way you think.

I just read in the local paper today that the United States Supreme court will be deciding a case early next year that will clarify when officers can legally be held responsible for using excessive force while making an arrest. Previously a lower court decision basically said that officers in many cases may use no force at all in arresting someone. The case stems from a lawsuit in california where a military police officer forcibly removed a demonstrator at the presideo during a speech given by Al Gore. The demonstrator was reportedly thrown into a van(no injuries) and was later released without being charged with violating any laws or regulations.

This case is crucial to law enforcement. It can mean the difference between cops going out there and being proactive or simply reactive because of the fear of being held liable simply for doing your job.

I'm not going to Monday morning quarterback this MP, but for everybody else out there if you put your hands on somebody you better arrest them and charge them. It's a different job now and we just can't get away with doing stuff like that anymore.

dsummer,

I'm sure they would LOVE for You to use a little 00 buck and some Slugs too. That would mean a Big Pay Day for them.

I got it!
While the lawsuit is in progress the scumbag's lawyer must bunk with him in prison while the trial is going on.
Then we'll see who gets shot.

Here's a small list of other lawsuits filed by inmates in VA:

1)An inmate sued the state becuase his cinnamon bun did not have raisons.

2)An inmate sued the state becuase he could not have live animals and a dagger for an animal sacrifice.

3)We had a guy try to sue saying we were violating his civil rights by forcing him to undertake a drug treatment program (the guy was a three time loser, 31 years old, who had spent all but two years of his adult life in prison on drug and robery charges).

4) An inmate sued the state for using excessive force(he lost). They used an Ulton II stun gun on him when he refused to remove his hands form a feeding slot so his door could be secured (he had 12 warnings).

As you can see your tax dollors are hard at work fighting of lawsuits by these idiots. Not to mention the waht it costs to transport them to court, pay the salary of the officers transporting them, the salary of staff being sued, if they travel to local jail the cost of housing them during the trial, etc.

Oh how I LOVE working with the public.

dsumner, we're looking at less-lethals for our PD in Maryland. Can you offer any details or a source of more information on the ban on specialty impact munitions? Thanks and be safe.

I'd say Terry got it right there - buckshot wins for me. Then again try a Haton round.

It's not really an official ban, we were advised that until they get everything with the lawsuits cleared up, don't use the ammo.

Also the ACLU has a number of lawsuits going to stop the use of EID (Stunguns, REACT belts, etc.) apprently they feel its better for us to get into a fist fight or beat a guy with a baton to get him to stop fighting us.

Red Onion, (one of VA's to Super Max prisons) had a guy die after a stun gun was used on him. His family swear's it was the stun gun, but doctors say it was diabetic shock.

I've been hit with the stun gun 4 times (once for 4 1/2 seconds), OC spray, an ICE electronic shield, and rounds from an rounds from a combo OC/stinger grenade (I stepped around a corner a little to fast during a room clearing exercise).

Yes all of the above hurt, but I'm still up and walking around.

What these idiots don't understand is that they are really limiting our options when an inmate becomes disruptive, is fighting, or suicidal. We can either fight him or shoot him if talking does not work. They are screwing them selves over.

The best source I know of for les than leathal is Defense Technologies. That's where we purchase or ammo and grenades from.
