I got a tip from someone here at SOCNET to get a G-Shock atomic solar so I did (http://www.casio.com/products/Timepiece/G-Shock/GW500A-1V/). I love the watch its awesome but I have a issue with the band. I don't do allot of swimming but when I do the band comes unbuckled. I almost lost it in a Reef in Mexico on my Honeymoon. I believe this happens because the band isn't tightened down enough on my wrist. If I go one more notch Down the band bothers my boney wrist.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking about swapping out for one of those martec bands I don't know why I seen them posted so much on forums but they look more comfortable and form fitting. Has anyone put one of these on this model G-Shock (http://www.casio.com/products/Timepiece/G-Shock/GW500A-1V/)?
Also My battery seems to be going dead pretty quickly but it was fine before. Does anyone else know if these things running out of solar power is normal? I haven't been outside allot lately and its been raining but even after I leave it out in the sun for a day it only lasts for about 4 days until it goes to hibernation mode.

I don't know about the battery, but for the band I have two ideas...
COA 1 - Get one of these: http://www.divesports.com/mall/waterborne_watchbands.asp. I got one for my Casio Marine model before I deployed and I haven't had any problems. I had a lot of problems with the OEM bands breaking, but I'm very happy with the Waterborne.
COA 2 - Rigger's tape... :D

Yep. Waterbornes are the shizzle. They have the black D-rings if ya need to be super secret. Make sure to replace the pins with a stainless steel 316 alloy. Casio pins are crap.

Yeah thats like what i was thinking of.
1.is there diffrence between those waterbornes and the MARATAC ZULU?
2.Will the black wear off the D ring?
3.Where do I get a stainless replacement pin.
4.this watch has big bulky black corners around the band and screw in pin... I am wondering if this will poke me, or look absurd?

Ever thought about a black rubber band aound the 'female side of the band and just tuck the tail end of the 'male' side underneath it? when my sliding retaining band broke on my G-shock, that's what I did.
BTW if the black wears off, EM-Nu works pretty well...

thats a good idea. But I will be wearing this with a suit so I get looks with a tactical looking watch as it is :). Plus the watch is fine if I cych it down one more notch... its not broken just an uncomfortable band when tight.

Check to see if you've switched on the auto light feature. It'll make the light come on briefly every time you rotate the watch up to read it, and this will drain a battery in a couple of days easily.
Switch the auto light feature on/off by holding down the light button (silver button w/ a "G" on it, at the 6 o'clock position) for 3 seconds.
Replacement batteries are too expensive, and ya gotta mail the thing in . . .

yeah thats what it was with the battery but I love that feature :) the first night it was on it kept startling me :)
So I got the battery issue fixed... but now it looks like martac zulu bands dont fit g shock gw-500a
they have adapters but not for this model

Five months and the black still hasn't worn off the D rings. And I wear it 24/7 here.
I don't know about the replacement pins. I had my techs solder my original watch pins in place and it's holding up well.

I have a couple of Maratac Zulu watchbands, as well as a Rhino watchband, on a few of my watches. I've read that the Waterborne band's edges are not smooth, which is why I stayed away from them. I've been very happy with the Rhino and the Zulu. The holes are pretty close together, so it's easy to get a good fit with them.
None of the nylon watchbands seem to work well with Casio watches, IMHO. They make the watch profile way too high for my taste, because the band goes underneath the case of the watch. It makes for a real pain in the ass to get the sleeve of my turnout coat off over the watch.

My black came off. Grabbing bugs under the fuel pier and seaplane ramps for 20 years though. The waterborne come in 1 inch and 3/4 inch. Sunnto is the dashizzle too.

Suunto Really!?!?!?
That messes me up now :) I was looking at one of those for a while but I was under the impression they just don't hold up that well. I was looking at the Suunto X9i Military but its the same issue... I wouldn't be able to put a Zulu starp on there :( which model are you suggesting that I can put a ZULU starp on :)
This feedback is great guys thanks!

I was a great advocate of G-Shock until Casio came up with Pro-trek.
Their new triple sensor solar powered iron man/endurance race model
(whatever they call it) is the best I've worn. It's a titanium bodied/strapped model which is pretty anti-shine, it's not as big as some of their other models and consequently doesn't look out of place with a jacket and tie. Usual features inc. compass, barometer, altimeter, etc.
I needed a watch to cover suit and field dress, it fulfills this need.
Just my opinion,
stay safe,
M.
