You might want to check with one of your local big box book stores, like Borders or Barnes and Noble. They could probably do a search for you and special order something if they find it. I see that you're in the UK or Africa, but they should still be able to give you a lead on a title, even if they can't order it for you. Try Amazon UK also.
The Arabic of the Maghreb definitely is different from most of the Arabic you'll find throughout the rest of the Arab world. I met and talked with a Moroccan contingent of troops during Desert Shield, and found their Arabic to have been influenced to some degree by the French language. It was pretty noticeable, and I don't even speak French, but have heard enough of it to hear the similarities.
I imagine the same holds true for Algerian dialects of Arabic, although I'm sure it has a sound all its own, as do most of the dialects.

Algerian has this funky mix of arabic, french and berber or something, that actually sounds german itself. I don't even understand phrases other than "hamdullillah" in Algerian. I'm nowhere near native, but I ain't bad, either. Good luck with algerian!!

Thanks for the info. Think I'll make do with my poor French and hope for the best.

I did a quick check on amazon.com and a few language bookstores and I was surprised at just how little info is out there for Algerian Arabic. I found several sources of Morrocan Arabic, but virtually nothing for Algerian Arabic.

Dear Mike,
pm sent, and without talking about some french words in the Algerian dialect, it's just so contracted kind of pronounciation whenAlgerian talked arabic, so to giving you an example US new yorker accent and aussie accent and the so british accent of the City of London.
Berber when they speak, only berber from the same tribe can understand it, this language is called AMAZIGHT and it come from the old egyptian that was vehiculated by slaves whose runned away from the pharaons after the decadence of the pharaonic era. Some similitudes were revealed to the universitaries student and researchers through conferences and symposiums.
Many arabic from Maghreb when they move to the midest for busines, sports events or for any other reason, there are some days to these alien to arrive to be understood and understand the mideasternean arabic accent.
they are talking the same basis arabic litterature that serve as reference to all of them.

Might also want to touch base with various universities and schools that have ME studies and language programs. They may not offer courses in that dialect, but they should be able to steer you in the right direction.
