We currently use the Motorola Sabre SI series radios for patrol and tactical work. Anyone have experience good or bad w/ throat mikes like the LASH system? Or other simmilar products that work as well...

Throat mic's get pretty uncomfortable after any kind of sustained operation and the voice quality is somewhat limited, especially if you whisper. Currently we are using system from Tactical Command Industries with a headset and boom mic. They also make a system called the SAS which is very good. One of things I am very impressed with is the sound quality. Whether barely whispering or shouting the sound quality is excellent. I can't think of the web page off the top of my head, but if you do any kind of search you should be able to find TCI, talk to Don Medine the owner, who is also a current cop.

This is an example of how the SAS Models are worn.

I'll check them out. Currently we use a cheapo PTT and the problem comes when we don our gas masks and you have to shout to be heard in the tiny microphone...tks

We used throat mikes for one operation and promptly turned them in for boom mikes.

1. Throat microphones work off of vocal cords/voice. YOU CAN'T WHISPER WITH A THROAT MIKE. Also, you can't whisper with bone-conduction microphones either.

2. Throat microphones work best when they're REAL snug. Try moving, shooting and communicating for 10 minutes with one on your neck.

Here's another thought: Reconsider your signal actions via voice as assaulters
