OLD "A"Co and Oki Recon Marines early 80s

Anyone remember "Jonsey" Greg Jones who came from Oki then went to "A"Co.? He floated with 2/3 and I with 3/3 so we didnt deploy together plus my memory is shot. I heard about his ulimate demise however and some of the details. A group is trying to contruct a memorial for him with memories others have of him. They are looking for people that knew him well enough to recall some fond memories of him. So if you can help please respond. TIA

He was always a professional about making sure his teams were ready to go and his people were trained. He trained hard and played even harder. He had a great sense of humor, even when things got rough, and with that bald head he did a great Popeye impression, I was sorry to see him go the way he did.

I remember Jonesy well. I might even have some photos of when we were in B Co together. I cannot remember if he went through my RIP class or not, he probably went through the class prior to mine.

The last time we worked together was on small-boat ops in the PI. I think a platoon or two from A Co and 1-2 from B Co worked either a frigate or a destroyer sometime during May (I think) of '83. I don't remember if he had "died" the first time before or after this op. I do remember that the seas were unfriendly and that more than a couple of us got some cuts and bruises launching and recovering.

My most clear memory (other than the two of us fighting an outboard motor being lowered during that last op) is a rather inebriated Jonesy coming out of the head in the Blue Oyster bar (I think that was the name, or it might have been Blue Diamond -- or maybe something else -- it was the "Recon" bar down in the ville outside of Kadena/Camp Butler) with a huge fucking turd in his hands and going up to "Shack" and telling him to take a look at the size of this thing.

After I was discharged (honorablly) I attended a Commerical dive school in Houston, TX P-Shack was an instructor there. Truly a small world.
