I need help. I want to get 1911's approved for general duty use and if any of you have positive comments and use them for work let me know. This is only for LE and Military since that is all the admin types will listen to. We use them for SWAT and off duty but that is all that is allowed so far. Thanks

FBI SWAT operators carry the 1911-like Springfields on and off duty, including "regular" agent work.

Try selling them on the Paraordance P-12 or P-14. Both configured on the 1911 frame and high capacity(12/14 rounds). That seems to be the selling point these days for the military anyway.

The department I was previously employed with would not allow any officers to carry the 1911 style handgun on duty (off duty ok) ....."too aggressive". Then we the new Chief came in folks began to express safety concerns for officers carrying the 1911 attempting to continue the ban. At present they have been approved for any officer to carry on duty or off, as long as that officer can show general working knowledge of the weapon (Field Strip / Safety features ect.) and qualify with it. To many folks surprise only the folks, who most would have not challenged carrying the 1911's in the first place (due to better than average firearms skills)converted after approval.

We've been allowed to carry it since the late 70's. For a long time it was the predominate sidearm in our department. I've been carrying one since shortly after I came on. Contact me via e-mail should you need policy info, etc.

Eric, sounds similar to San Jose PD? My proposal goes to the Chief today for review. Talked with several local agencies and even the FBI. All loved the 1911's and had fewer AD/ND's with them. Training is the key as with any pistol. Thanks to all for the help
