Doyle and Brandon fly with Joe Foss (USMC Aviator, Ace, Medal of Honor) at Guadalcanal.

They are best friend, and constant wingman.

Not told of Brandon, he finish 'high school' at age of 16, is offered position at US Naval Academy in aeronautics after finish university. He decide to volunteer for combat duty as Fighter Pilot instead.

Very interesting to read letters, different time and world is much 'smaller' place. He hopes for assignment to Texas State because then he would "get to see more of the country".

While I was going through boot camp in early 2002, my grandfather and I corresponded greatly. He was the most supportive of my decision to join the military, and while disapointed I didn't go Navy, he was at least satisfied I went into the Marines.

He retired in Arizona, and met BGen Joe Foss at a church service one Sunday morning. The two began to talk, and he told him that his grandson, me, was at Parris Island going through boot camp. Apparently the next week BGen Foss brought along a hand written note to pass along to me to for some guidance and inspiration. It was by far one of the most motivating things ever, and even more so now as I have learn more about Marine Corps history.

Thanks for this post.
