View Full Version : Ben Stiller War Movie
This has the potential to be hilarious:

Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr and Ben Stiller.
The film centres on a group of pompous actors making the most expensive Vietnam war movie ever made.
Fed up with their self-involved cast, the film's makers drop them into the jungle to take care of themselves, where they get caught up in a conflict they don't realise is real.
The cast also includes Steve Coogan, Nick Nolte and cameos from Tom Cruise and Tobey Maguire.
The film, Stiller's first as director since Zoolander, also sees his character adopt an Asian baby but worries "that all the good ones have gone". Paramount is set to release "Tropic Thunder" in the US Aug. 15.
That looks pretty funny! I'd go see it.
Ben's been working out.
lol Robert Downey Jr. is the black guy in that pic... haha

Reminds me of one of my favourite SNL skits of all time. Soon after Apocolypse Now came out, Martin Sheen hosted, and they did a skit in which the studio sent him into the jungle to kill Francis Ford Coppola because he was so far over budget on the movie.

Stand by for the PC weenies to start bitching and moaning about how they're mortally offended by a white actor in black-face.
Meanwhile, the black community laughs their collective ass off at the whole concept of RD Jr. playing a pimp in the jungle, and Dave Chappelle and D.L. Hugely sign up for Stiller's next movie.
Back in my lane.

Looks like a "Three Amigos" re-creation...
I just hope they ping every freaking cliche and stereotype used in war movies... :)

The dagger through the poncho and sombrero tat is priceless, the smoke without the spoon and rigger's taped to the H-gear also great.

I am sure they are going to poke fun at every war movie cliche and stereotype, it's what Ben Stiller does best.;)

One word: 'Roids. ;)
This should be good. Can't go wrong with Jack Black and Ben Stiller playing actors in a war movie.
Looks like Jack is channeling Joshua from Lethal Weapon. That calls for a cameo by Gary Busey.

Easy there. The Robert Downey character is not actually suposed to be black. He portrays a famous, yet batshit crazy, actor known for his intense method acting and imersion into his parts. Tropic Thunder is a send up of war movies while primarily making fun of Hollywood. In the film, Downey's character discovers the part he was given was originally written as a black character... so since he's such an intense method actor he insists on playing the character black, in makeup at all times... to the great displeasure of the film makers. That's sort of the point.
I don't think any of the "PC weenies" are going to be morally offended.
Nor do I think Robert Downey Jr is playing a "pimp in the jungle.":D

jb is pointing that pig like it's actually loaded. I had that same H-harness when was in, I bought it at an army surplus store. The two suspension straps worked a lot better than the single one I was issued, especially when I had the .45 in it's holster, unlike rd jr's empty holster.

Robert Downing Jr. is black.
I knew I saw an article a couple days ago about an outcry over that.

Bravo Five Romeo-
I get the plot and understand the point of Downey's character.
My point is that there will be PC whiners out there who *don't* get it and they'll start screeching about the unfairness of a white guy taking a black actor's part. They'll completely miss the parody.
In fact, it's already happening. (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_article_id=528496&in_page_id=1773)

Sorry. I made the mistake of thinking people were smarter than that.
I forgot that they're not.
My apologies if I came off the wrong way.

From the Daily Mail article:
But the backlash has clearly begun as one comment on a showbiz blog Just Jared said: "I'm not black and I find it offensive; are there not any talented enough black actors out in the world that they feel the need to hire a white guy to do a black guy?"
"They are infering that there are no good enough black actors to play a black person.
"What is the significance of hiring a white guy to play a black part? what are they trying to prove? I bet its to get more publicity."
That dude definitely needs to get laid more often. I like Downey's perspective, though:
Clearing anticipating a backlash, Downey Jr told a US magazine: "If it's done right, it could be the type of role you called Peter Sellers to do 35 years ago. If you don't do it right, we're going to hell." :D

LMAO! That is the whole point of the damn role for RDJ. He is playing a character who is playing a character. It is a movie within a movie.
People need to stop skim reading and jaw jacking about stuff they don't fully understand. And yes, I think that guy needs to get laid, or at the least kiss a woman.

Maybe there's a slight adjustment needed to that quote for it to be appropriate for the person in question, but the sentiment is good.

The Party. Great movie.
It sure is. The scene at the beginning where Seller's Indian character prematurely blows up the set by getting the dynamite plunger caught in his sandal gets me laughing hysterically...
I really enjoy Ben Stiller, and I am looking forward to seeing his latest movie...
