I will be rucking the entire 26.2 mile course at the end of this month, in honor of the men who lived the real thing back in 1942. Will anybody here be there doing it or has anyone done it?

I've never done it but in 2000 (IIRC) the Ranger team finished 1st place 1 2 3 and 4 all at the same time. One of the tm members was my TL and another was a TL in my plt:cool:

I was there. They finished in 5:08 I think it was. They were using the death march as training for Best Ranger. They also came out specifically to beat the British "Air Defense Artillery" (yeah right...LOL) unit that had won it for the past several years. I ran with them for a while for the first mile or two. I have a picture here somewhere of all of us after the race. They were absolute fucking animals. I lost 4 toenails that day.

Roger that. I forget who the fourth Ranger was, but those guys were, and still are, PT studs.

Dirtpuppy, good luck!
I was able to drive down part of the original road of the Bataan Death March. Very humbling experience.

We have a member in our American Legion Post who did the real thing in 1942. He is 87 years old and it's very hard to get him to talk about it. When he does it's almost unbelievable.

My great uncle was on it. I never knew him and I've only heard a few stories, but he's a legend in the family. I think my father and uncle are still afraid of him. He was a sailor that got "converted" to infantry.

Did it in 2001 as part of the Academy- everyone HAD to be on a committee, so I signed up for that- 1 day, no big deal, since most had no desire to participate. I didn't have to participate but wanted to; rucked it in 5:50- not Best Ranger time but respectable (I guess) since I was 43 at the time...
Nearly fell asleep on the way home because I was so smoked.:D :D

The only part I am am worried about is the elevation. Ive ever been that high up in altitude, nor have I traversed on foot with ruck that high. They say its no big deal, but this will be a first for me and its on my mind. Sucking it up is the only thing I know how to do...;)

Mile 23 is the beginning of the bitch part of the route- 8-12 inch deep loose sand. Your quads will be screamng.
Dirtpuppy, don't worry about the elevation it would suck at any altitude:cool:

Finished 26.2 officially in 8:12, but my watch says 7:52, :) Great experience and it was great being out there with the people and all military folks from all branches and countries. It was moving shaking the hands of the vets as we crossed the start. The hill, the sand pit, and the housing wall were all mind f***s!

On the day the movie "The Great Raid" came out in 2005, we were in Cabanatuan, PI and we made sure we paid a visit to the POW camp where those that made the march ended up at. The only original part left of the camp were the cement foundations where the legs of the water tower was mounted. Memorials everywhere, from all sorts of organizations. I've got pics somewhere but I'm sure you can google the place.
Dirtpuppy: Congrats!
Good job Dirtpuppy....hope you have some pics to share with us.
Take care

First time finisher #663 here.
The altitude nor the sand bothered me.
The long road to the housing area and the fence itself that played headgames with me.
I got a photo with the Merrill's Marauder that was at the checkpoint, however, I was so beat down, I didn't ask his name.
edit:
I even got my first Poser SEAL bust-thanks Frog!

I have a few pics from the route up to about mile 13, after that I didn't care too much about taking pictures. I'll post them once I figure out how to do it.
