Sharky,
Last night 05 June 01 Peter Jennings did
a piece about 2 or 3 minutes about EL PASO,
and how it's wilting...while the other side
of the boarder is going great guns...I thought it was very informational because I
am up in the Northeast...with no knowledge of
Texas and the boarder/problems...I am sure if you live there and know the area the piece would look much different...Just passing it along...

Yep....wilting is an understatement. I personally think they should just scrap this whole city and start over again from the ground up......or just give it to Mexico. It's practically theirs anyway.

El Paso is the rich part of North Juarez. Maybe that is why people who live here want to become part of New Mexico. Personally the U.S. Government should pull back our units to the outer city limits and let em have it.

well just so that everyone knows El Paso is as American as any other city. If having a big hispanic population makes it less american, one should think about giving San Diego, Houston, or LA to Mexico. There are a lot of people that are and feel as american as someone living in Kansas or Oklahoma.Sure the city needs improvement but come on guys, there are cities deeper in the US that are more run down that El Paso. That is only my opinion.

Patriot, I think we should not only move the border back. but give up Miami while were at.

No one said having a large hispanic is anti-american. But when you go out in an area and More than the majority of the people don't speak English or just don't want too. Or the only reason people are here is because they can't make decent living in Their Country and have No Loyalites to This Country that is the problem.

Augie,

I agree that there are some leeches here as everywhere else, and not only from hispanic descent but from every other ethnic background that are just sucking away from the government and have no loyalties whatsoever to this country. But there are a lot of us that while our parents might have had come from other countries are as patriotic as someone whose family has been in the US for several generations. I tell you this because I know people from the two sides of the issue, and you will be surprised that a large number of those that would be willing to sacrifice themselves are new or first generation americans. Unfortunately I know a couple of idiots that could care less if the government or our way of life goes to hell, those are the ones that don't have any respect for the law or take our freedom for granted, that think that wearing the flag as underwear is funny or cool, those are kind of people I do not have any respect for. Well while we have deviated from the topic I just wanted to say that yes the border needs a lot of improvement and yes a lot of idiots here do not feel any loyalty for this country but please dont forget us that feel as american as you do. Hey Sharky or Tone where do you guys come from? I do not intend to start a flame war I am just curious. Well what do you expect from me, I was born in El Paso, it is boring as hell and it is just a hole in the desert but is a place I call home. Well see you guys...got to study I got an exam tomorrow.

I was born/raised in South Texas. One of my Highschool teachers was a former Army SF member with a couple of tours in Vietam. He was walking through the local HEB (grocery store), speaking spanish to a buddy. He had some fat redneck inform him that if he didn't think enough of the country to speak English, he should go back to Mexico.
Ugly scene, the teacher almost lost his job. The redneck almost lost his life.

Victor,
Before we start the Flame War....I know that there is alot of good people in this city and that there are some good points to it also. The fact remains that every day law enforcement officers here see blatant disregard and sometimes hatred for the law from our own "citizens". I'm sure you were here before "hold the line" when illegals ran rampant through the city. I'm not sure of the official figures but I have heard that between 1993 and 1994 crime dropped 46%. Thats in thefts and robbery alone. I have been thanked many times from residents of the Chihuahuaita neighborhood for my presence so that their children could play in the park that is only 25 meters from the river. While these comments make us feel like we are improving lives of some residents, every day we are cut off in traffic, blocked when running code in an emergency situation, and other childish things. We see far more of the bad side of this town than of the good. Maybe going back to the good ole days before hold the line will wake this place up.

Originally I am from North Texas.

My problem with this place?

The same that it's always been. People here want to bring Mexico to the United States. They are more concerned with being Mexican than with being American. Probably 30% of the population of this town are Mexican citizens who don't give a shit about this country as long as the check gets there on time. Shit......don't even get me started on this shit again. Somebody will think I'm racist. Sorry Victor....this town is a shithole and it has nothing to do with the fact that it's 85% Hispanic. It's got to do with the attitudes of that 85%.

Oh they pay alright. They just usually pay into a fake social security account. The number will be real but an illegal will be using it. Eventually, the IRS will come to see you wanting to know about all this unreported income. It's getting paid toward your social security account by the imposters employer but you're not claiming it on your taxes since you didn't earn it and have no idea that some jackass has been using your SS# to gain employment. Good luck explaining to the IRS that you haven't been hiding anything from them when there's a couple hundred thousand extra dollars credited to your SS account. It happened to my father and I see it quite often here. I had my father check his SS# with the SSA and, sure enough, he found out that someone in VA was fraudulently using his SS number. Luckily, it hadn't been going on too long and wasn't hard to straighten out. Sometimes it can go on for years without your knowledge. Counterfeit SS Cards go for about 50 bucks just across the river in Juarez.

Guys I got to admit it....it is a shithole in terms that there is nothing over here compared to other cities, yeah I see that...also there are a lot of idiots like you and I said that could care less about this country. On this same note I have had quite a few arguments with coworkers at the company I am that dont like the US but when I question how come the like the dollars they are getting the get upset...ok I can see that most of us care a lot about having a better living but if you are coming over here at least have the decency of respecting the law, that is my opinion. What I dont like that sometimes because of these idiots people get the impression that everyone here is a loser like they are...

Guys I know where you are coming from, I was here before HOLD THE LINE was in effect and believe me it was a mess...well I got my car stolen so I can say that crime was rampant and that was everywhere, not only the Second Barrio or Chihuahuita, I got my car stolen from Montwood...so yeah guys we owe you on that, thank you! But please do not generalize about eveyone here in el chuco...we still love our country, God bless the USA!

Don't forget NYC (home sweet home) as a Spanish speaking city. If you don't habla here you in trouble, not necessarily fluent, but pidgin. My grandfather had two years of high school spanish and 4 years later as NYPD ended up fluent, and that was from 1952-59. I took French in school, but mi mejor amigo es Dominicano, so...
