1st round

Wings in 5
Sharks in 6
Stars in 7 - No way the hockey gods allow a team captained by Pronger and including Bertuzzi to win.

Avs in 6

Who ever comes out of the East will be destroyed by the Western Champ.

Detroit had a nice sports day. Tigers completed the sweep of the Yanks (was at game 2), Pistons killed Philly to move on to the next round and the Wings HUMILIATE the Avs to complete the 2nd round sweep.
Our teams are the only thing keeping that city on the map.

Still pissed about the North Stars going to Dallas. I haven't been to a game since. I guess it's time to start looking around out here for a new team, the pain is finally subsiding.

I'm really pulling for a Stars win. I'm not particularly hot about the team but theydo have my favourite finnish player and well, my favourite player PERIOD on their roster: Jere Lehtinen. Barring that though i'd like to see the Wings take the cup. Detroit is a team that for some reason always gets on my nerves (maybe because they have swedes in key positions), but i STILL can't but like a team that's a Stanley Cup contender EVERY year and also one of the original six.

I actually would prefer the Stars then the Sharks against the Redwings. I take the Redwings in 6.

Not every year. I don't remember the Red Wings contending back when the Islanders were winning their four straight, or when the Oilers were dominating hockey with speed.

I like both the STARS and the WINGS. But I have to cheer for the Texas team. I also love the way Morrow plays. He reminds me of the grit and determination of those Yzerman led teams.

Who could forget the Broad Street Bullies?

As for Detroit, I'm supposed to be against any team that they play, simply because they're the Redwings. But Chelios has been playing with them on one year contracts for a few years now, and I'd like to see him go out on top.

That guy might wind up playing until he's 50.

Last night was the first time I have had the opportunity to see the Red Wings play and I must say they looked impressive. I hope Dallas can come back and make the series interesting.

I cannot wait for tonight's game....Thank GARY ROBERTS it's Friday....GO PENS!

9 May 2008, 12:26
The Wings schooled Dallas last night. I doubt every game will go that well for them. The Stars have a good team but the Wings are far more skilled and rested. It will be interesting to watch. Hopefully not too interesting. Osgood has been good so far but I've watched him play since 93.

Wings in 4.

9 May 2008, 19:33
I was reading another thread that said Dallas had to play better teams and work harder in the playoffs that Detroit.

This is true.

However, if Dallas would have but that effort into the 7 month campaign, like the Wings did, that is the regular season they would not be in this position.

My dream scenario was a multi overtime game for the Stars and SJ. I just wanted it to be a game 7.

I love this game.

Flyers looked like shit. Out skated and out played by a good Pitt Team.

theBilldoman
10 May 2008, 04:29
I know I am an impartial bystander, however the Pens didn't play their best game and still beat the Flyers 4-2...they had what...1 legitimate powerplay opportunity? The series looks to be a physical one, but after even after tonight I don't think the Flyers have an answer to Crosby and Maklin.

Oh, and I love kegs of Keystone Light....

Go Pens

Shamus375PA

The Pens out played the Flyers on both sides of the puck. This is going to get ugly!

10 May 2008, 10:28
Im a Caps fan, but I am realistic and know there was know way they were going to beat Detriot in the end. I have been watching the wings and they are too fast, and own the neutral zone. I'm going with the wings for Lord Stanley.

Well the ending was exciting. Osgood did a concealed butt end after the final whistle as Ribereo flew by. Ribereo retaliated with a high stick which felled Osgood like a tree. Ribereo then was mobbed and beheaded by the Redwings big boys. Should make for interesting talk about who is gonna play in game 3....Wings stomped Texas ass bigtime.

Always helps when the Flyers 2 best defensemen are out of the game..........

theBilldoman
12 May 2008, 09:18
I understand that the Flyers are without their top two defensemen, however that does not account for their lack of offensive production. Where are Briere and (sc)Umburger?

The Flyers had something like 5 shots in the 3rd period when they were down by 1? They don't look like they realize it is the playoffs.

As for the Pens, Malkin should come out on fire Tuesday and if the 3rd and 4th line keep contributing like they have been it could be over in 4. GO PENS!!!

Silverbullet
12 May 2008, 09:33
They don't look like they realize it is the playoffs.

Huh? They knocked off 2 teams they weren't supposed to, to get where they are now. I think they are more than aware that they are in the playoffs.

Lacking 2 defensemen who are also part of your transition offense is a big problem offensively as well as the obvious defense issue.

The real point should be that the Penguins were only able to generate the amount of offense they did with the hole in the Flyers 2 lines. The game wasn't decided until 28 second left. It's not like they produced a blow out.

They are down but not out. We'll see what happens now in Philly.

Shamus375PA
12 May 2008, 09:38
What is the key to going deep into the playoffs?

Staying healthy. That is part of the game, you either have guys who step up or you go home. So, being down two awesome defensemen is a valid excuse, but we all know about excuses.

Silverbullet
12 May 2008, 10:07
So, being down two awesome defensemen is a valid excuse, but we all know about excuses.

LOL, you know I'm not making excuses. I'm just countering your over exuberant statement about the Pens looking "unbeatable" by offering valid points.

I'm all about the score board but unbeatable is questionable. Being unable to score a knockout punch against a wounded foe doesn't bode well for those wanting to go all the way, either.

Shamus375PA

12 May 2008, 11:21
Flyers didn't get there by defense alone. They got thier by being a team. They didn't play well together. They seem to need to be kicked in the teeth before they start to play. I will never rule any team out in the semi finals. A comeback is always probable. Pens look great and their goal tending fantastic. They have a kink in thier armour. LOts of shots...it will go in.

Redwings will be making a mess of the Stars tonite. Never know, maybe Modano will get a few in. Original North Star. That guy is phenomenal!

13 May 2008, 10:21

[This series has provided a real test for Laraque. He already has challenged Derian Hatcher, who has been trying to manhandle Malkin, but the Flyers defenseman declined.

"If you're 6-foot-5, 230, back it up," Laraque said. "Look at [Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno] Chara. Chara's big, he plays physical, but backs it up if he has to. [Anaheim Ducks defenseman Chris] Pronger. But Hatcher never does. He's a bully."]

Looks like tonight is going to be another physical game...GO PENS

15 May 2008, 13:38
Game 4 should have given everyone hope that the NHL and Bettman need one team to not sweep their series. Big advertising revenue at stake.
I know it's not a conspiracy but for fuck sake, 2 completely blown calls regarding goals going for the Stars? Fuck!
Dallas played well Detroit was mediocre and we still should have at least had overtime. Game 4 away against a good team looking to avoid a sweep in the conference finals. Toughest game to win in all of sports.

Carl Spackler
15 May 2008, 14:54
Yep...I hear it now a new song...4 Blind Motherfuckers...whatever. The Wings were ready to be picked. They left the game for Osgood to win. Stars came out for a game and Modano showed his skills. Unfortunatly for the Stars when your 3rd and 4th lines make shit happen its all but a death gasp. I picked the Wings in 6 but looks to be 5....fork in the Stars.

Flyers are jus plain fucked and I mean proper fucked. Pens year in that series.
